• Windows should be in offices, not copy rooms or conference rooms.

• Spaces with high public use, such as T.A. offices and conference rooms should be directly accessed from public corridors. Faculty offices should be accessed from department hallways.

• Sizes of different types of offices should be standardized. Large offices should serve more than one occupant. (Visiting or adjunct faculty, staff, T.A.)

CONSOLIDATE DEPARTMENTS (General Goals)

• All faculty members in a department should be located in the same area.

• Each department should have a reception area directly accessed from a public corridor and serving as a gateway to a suite of faculty offices

• The department reception area should have a well-identified and welcoming entrance.

SHARE RESOURCES (General Goals)

• Adjunct professors and lecturers should share offices

• Graduate students and teaching assistants should share carrels.

• Departments should share conference, library and copy room space

• Larger “interaction rooms” should be available for seminars and AV presentations.

IMPLEMENTATION – SPRING ‘04

• Meetings with Department Representatives, College Architect and Facilities Team.

• Establishment of Department Needs– # of Tenured/tenure-track faculty– # of full-time and part-time lecturers, adjuncts and staff– # of graduate students and teaching assistants.– Identification of department-specific requirements

• Preparation of Plans and Schedule

IMPLEMENTATION – SUMMER ‘04

• Relocation of Departments to temporary locations– Department Office– Offices for summer instructors– Possible temporary Storage (faculty, off campus)

• Construction– Start May 15, 2004– Complete August 15, 2004

• Move back to new locations
