Future City Living

The Concept of WalkabilityWalkability is the idea that

cities should be pedestrian areas

Roads become new, safe areas for walking

It reduces noise and air pollution

It helps preserve the environment

It gives the population the opportunity to exercise, leading to healthier people

A car free environment

Examples of WalkabilityChina’s newest city addition will be

built completely from the ground up, and will entirely free of vehicles

It will house approximately 80,000 people in total

It will be possible to walk the entire cityFrom the centre to the extremity of the

city will take 10 minutes to walkIt will be energy efficient and produce

less waste

HyperdensityHyperdensity is the idea that cities should be built vertically to conserve ground space

These new constructs can be connected by walkways and bridges

The resulting free ground space can be made into pleasant areas for enjoyment

A taller way of living

Example of HyperdensityShan-Shui City in China, designed

by MAD Architects, is a futuristic city design reminiscent of water and mountains

It consists of mixed-use buildings, with public areas and living accommodation

There will be natural areas in between to allow for exploration

Public transit and walking will be the main modes of travel
