Babies Underlying all ofour work is the corebelief that childrenare spiritual beings.They are big peopleinlittlebodies,strivingforharmonyandbalance, and to live lives of love, grati-tudeandservicetoall.Butsomethingisnotright! Wearewitnessingtwoalarmingtrendsinthehealthofourchil-drentoday.Oneisthatmanyinfantswhomakeittoourdoorsexhibitsymptomsthatcanonlybedescribedas“AcuteSystemDisconnect.”Theyexhibitalackoflife,expression,andunresponsivenesstotheirenvironment.Theyappear listless,flaccid,andhavenoanimationorexpressionsontheirfaces.Manyofthebabieshaveabigsmile.Par-entswilldescribeproblemsthey’venoticed:nursing,difficultylatch-ingon,oreveninabilitytochangesides,troubleburpingorthechildspitsupalotevenprojectilevomiting,coliciscommonandmanyhaveacidreflux,irregularsleeppatternsandtheinabilitytodevelopacon-sistentsleep/feedcycle.Further,theyareeasilyagitated,hypersensi-tivetonoise,andshownorealconnectiontotheirparentsortothosearound them.These are heartbreaking symptoms for both childrenandtheirconcernedparents. Whenweobserve these infants,commonly, thebabiesareweak.Theyareunabletorightthemselvesorevenholdtheirheadup.Whenplacedontheirstomachtheycry.Forsome,thiswilltakeafewmin-utes.Mostofthesebabiescannotfreetheirarms.Theinfantsdonot

like“tummytime”accordingtotheparents.Otherscryassoonastheyareplacedontheirbacks.Someothercommonobservationsinclude:Upontesting, the pupils often will not respond with aproperlightreflex.Ifthepupilsconstrict,itisde-layedorunequal.Thebabywillmakelimitedeyecontact,ifanyandarenotabletoholdagaze.Eyemovementisslow,uneven,andnottothecorners.Themovementofthetongueisalsolimited.Many

ofthebabieshavebeensubjectedtotongue-clippingorankyloglossia Theotheralarmingtrendisthecommontreatmenttodayforail-ingchildren.RecentstatisticsfromIMSHealthindicatesthatastag-geringnumberarenowbeingdiagnosedwithchildhooddepressionandtreatedwithanti-depressivedrugtherapy.•TheuseofProzac-likedrugsforchildren: ~under18isup-74% ~inthe7-12agegroupitisup151% ~inchildrenunder6yearsofageitisupbyasurprising580%•Childrenunder18theuseofmoodstabilizers,otherthanlithiumis up4,000%•The use of new anti-psychotic medications such as Risperdal has grownby300% This isnothealth! Forover50years,OklahavenhasstoodfirmlybytheprinciplethattruewellnessandfullfunctionoccurswhenwehonorandsupporttherecuperativepowersofthebodyandaChiro-practiclifestyle…anaturaldrug-freewayoflife. Soasthesetwoalarmingtrendsappear,ourworkcontinuesandtakesonevenmoreurgency. For example, when subluxations are present in the babies de-scribedabove,weobserve:theirheadandneckareoftenpositionedtooneside,off-center,andthebabiesareunabletorotatetheirheadequally to each side. The bodies look asymmetrical and with timetheirpelvisesangulate.Theycanbeaproblem tohold.Theyhaveaverystiffback,whichcanevenfeellikeitisbowed,duetonotbeingabletoholduptheirheads,rotatethehead,neckandspine.Whatre-sultsisaninabilityforthebabytosnugglein,causingparentstoholdthechildfacingawayfrom them,which,unfortunately,onlyexacer-batestheproblem.

This year we have taken Oklahaven’s message literally around theworld.InlateFebruary,Roger Titone,whogifteduswithaTitronics In-strument in 2003, called to introduce us to Dmitry Utenkov, a Russian,who works with severely disorganized chil-dreninwater.Dmitryknewofourwork,butdidn’t know how to find me. He wanted toknowifchiropracticcouldhelpthechildrenhewasworkingwith.IassuredhimitwouldHeinvitedmetocometoPrague,CzechRepublicinApril.Dr. Zail KhalsafromBeverlyHillswent

with me. We were thefirst chiropractors in theCzechRepublic. Thechil-dren we saw improveddramaticallybecausetheywereoffallchemicalsandtheirdietsconsisted of good, whole food.The life force returned to theirbodies so quickly; it was trulymagical, which thrilled theirparents. In July, I visited Mos-

cow,Russia,andtreatedmanyofthesamechildren.Semyon and his mother, Yulia, who had come to

Oklahaven many times joinedus and it really touched my heart to see Semyonwalkdownthehallwithhisparents.IwillreturntoPrague in November to help teach new Europeanchiropractors. Dr. Steve Lawless, a graduate of LoganCollegeofChiropracticjoinedourstaffinMay.

A seminar at Oklahaven was held in September with long-standingboardmember Dr. John Carver as our special guest speaker. Dr. Carvergaveusaninspiringpresentationabouttheearlyhistoryofthechiroprac-ticprofessionandespeciallyaboutchiropracticinOklahoma. Dr. Carver’s grandfather,Willard Carver, had been an invalid from in-fancyuntilhereceivedthe“applicationoftheprinciplesofChiropractic”fromD.D.Palmer,thefatherofchiropracticinDavenport,Iowa. WillardCarver,whoeventuallybecameachiropractoraswellasalaw-yer,heartilyagreedwithD.D.Palmerthatthelifeforcewasthebasisofhealth.Althoughhefacedincredibleoppositionwhenhetriedtolegalizechiropractic to the state of Oklahoma,Willard ultimately prevailed. Hewrote18booksduringhislifetimeandestablishedsevenchiropracticcol-legesinthestatebeforehediedin1943.
