Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Installation

1. To install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on a Windows machine, go to https://vpn.msstate.edu.

2. Login to the website using your NetID and NetPassword.

3. You will need to add the VPN website to the list of Trusted sites within Internet Explorer. To do this, click on the gear in the upper right corner and choose Internet Options from the menu.

4. Under Internet Options, click the Security tab. From there, click Trusted Site and then click Sites to open the Trusted Sites window.

5. Type https://vpn.msstate.edu in the “Add this website to the zone” field and click Add to add it to the trusted sites. Click close and OK when you are done.

6. To install AnyConnect, click Start AnyConnect.

7. After clicking Start AnyConnect, it will start the installation process.

8. Click Install or Run on any Internet Explorer security boxes you might see during installation.

9. After AnyConnect is installed, it will automatically connect you to the VPN.

10. You will see an AnyConnect icon with a lock on it by the clock when you are connected to the VPN.

11. To reconnect to the AnyConnect VPN client once you have disconnected, start the AnyConnect software from the Start Menu. Make sure the address is vpn.msstate.edu and click Connect. A new window appears prompting for your NetID and NetPassword. Click OK and you are reconnected to the VPN.

Setting up VPN connection on a Mac

1. To setup a VPN connection on the Mac, navigate to System Preferences and click select .

2. In the network window, select the plus sign (+) to add a connection.

3. Change the interface type to VPN. VPN type should be set to Cisco IPSec. Click Create to create the connection.

4. Select the VPN connection you just created to set it up.

5. In the Server Address field, type in vpn.msstate.edu. In the Account Name field, type your NetID. The server will prompt for a password each time so you do not need to enter your NetPassword.

6. Click Authentication Settings...

7. In the Machine Authentication window, select Shared Secret. The shared secret and group name are msstate. Click OK.

8. In the VPN connection window, click Apply to save your settings. Then click Connect to connect to the VPN.

9. Enter your NetID and NetPassword and click OK.

10. You should now be connected to the MSU network.

11. To disonnect, go back to Network under System Preferences and select the VPN connection. Click Disconnect.
