o Psalm119isthelongestpsalmaswellasthelongestchapterintheBible.ItistheprayerofonewhodelightsinandlivesbytheTorah,thesacredlaw.Its176versesaredividedintotwenty‐twostanzasofeightlineseachandinHebrewformsanacrostic,witheachstanzastartingwithsuccessivelettersoftheHebrewsalphabet.InalmosteveryverseofthepsalmisasynonymfortheTorah,suchas“word”,“promise”,“testimonies”,etc.Asyouread,beonthelookoutforthepsalmist’sresponsetowardGodandHisWord:“delight”,“obey”,“meditate”,“rejoice”,etc.

o ReadPsalm119:9‐16Thepsalmistdeclaresthataperson“keepshiswaypure”byobeyingGod’sWord(v.9).ThepsalmisttestifiesthathehasinternalizedandrejoicesinGod’sWordsothathemightbemorallypure(v.10‐14).HecontinuallymeditatesontheLaw(v.15‐16).

Preschool(Birth‐Kindergarten)o Beforeyoubegin,gatheroneofyourchildren’sbooks.Itneedstobeabookwithwhichtheyareunfamiliar.Sit

downwithyourchildandsay,“Todaywearegoingtoreadagreatstory,butIdon’twanttoreadtheentirebook.Ithinkitwilltaketoomuchtime.So,I’llreadjustalittleofit.”Readonlythefirstsentenceorparagraph.

o Say,“Isn'tthisstorygreat?Whatdoyouthinkhappensinthisstory?Well,maybeIneedtoreadsomethingfromthemiddleofthebooktohelpusfindoutmore.(Readasentencefrommiddleofbook.)Nowdoyouknowwhathappens?Doyouknowhowthestoryends?(Readlastthelastsentenceorparagraphofthebook.)Nowdidyoulikethestory?Well,Ididn'treallyreadenoughofthestory,didI?Ifwereallywanttoknowwhathappensinthisbook,weneedtoreadthewholething.Weneedtoreadallthewordsonallthepages.”

o TheBiblehasmanypagesandwords,andmanypeopledon'twanttoreadthewholeBible.Theyjustlookatpartsofitandthinktheyknowthewholestory.Butwhenwereadonlylittlepartsofmybook,wecouldn'tfigureoutwhathappenedanditdidn'tmakecompletesense,didit?

o It'sthesamewiththeBible.TheBibleisGod’sstoryandifwewanttoknowthewholestory,weneedtoreadthewholeBible.Notallatonce,butalittleatatime.

o WecantakegreatjoyandlearnalotfromreadingALLofGod’sword.OneofthegreatestgiftsGodgaveusistheBible.WeshouldbesohappytolearnmoreaboutGodfromtheBible.Godissogoodandlovesussomuch!WeneedtothankHimforgivingusHisstoryintheBible.

inthesethings.Aftertalkingaboutthem,writeinthefirstheartallthethingsinwhichyourchildrentakedelight.Intheotherheartwritetheword“God”inbigletterstakingupmostofthespace.Nowlookatbothhearts.Gobackandtrytowrite“God”thesamewayonthefirstheart.Youcan't,becauseitistoofullofotherstuff.Youonlyhaveroomtofit“God”insmallspaces.WhenwefillourheartswithmanythingsandnotGod,wedon'tleaveHimmuchroominourheartsandlives.
