• Provide emergency plans, services, and supplies for all facilities and employees

• Ensure the safety/supervision of students, faculty, staff and visitors to the school

• Restore normal services as quickly as possible• Coordinate the use of school personnel and

facilities• Provide detailed and accurate documentation of

emergencies to aid in the recovery process

Emergency Response

Responsibilities

• Protect students, staff, and property• Train and exercise– 3 evacuation– 1 weather– 1 bus evacuation– 1 LE (recommended)

Evacuate

Shelter in Place

• Weather emergencies, outside hazardous materials incident

• Stop teaching• Close doors, windows, and HVAC• Take shelter• Account for students

Modified Lockdown

• Dangerous situation near school• Keep teaching• Stay within room but away from doors and

windows• No outside activities• Movement may be restricted• Account for students

Lockdown

• Intruder within building, suspicious person on grounds, dangerous activity outside or near school

• Stop teaching• Shelter within building• Movement within building is restricted• Building secure• Account for students

Reunification

• Move students– Switch schools– Tennis courts– Spring Run Presb. Church

• Parental pick up• Bus students– Regular assignments

BREAK

Scenario #1

• Power goes out at school• January 26 degrees and sleeting• Moving to Church– Parent arrives as buses are loading and wants to

take their child– While at church, a non-custodial parent arrives

and says that his ex-wife is out of town and the child is staying with him for a couple of days

– While at the church, student advises that they have left their medication at school and they need their inhaler

– Student advises that they are going home on a different bus because they are staying at a friends house tonight

Scenario #2

• Fall day– Chemistry accident– 4 students are injured and coated in material– 6 students are coughing and gagging– Small fire

Scenario #3

• Spring day, 10 a.m. • Multiple vehicle accident on Turnpike directly

in front of school complex– Several HM materials involved– No vehicle traffic is authorized in area, including

PVR– Evacuation out to 2,000’ is required

Scenario #4

• Spring day– Small fire in the bathroom– Smoke in the hall– As classes move outside, there are shots and

students begin to fall– Shots are heard from behind you in the school

Scenario #5

• February day, 28 degrees with rain– Crack in propane piping leading into high school– ERG recommendation of 800 meter evacuation – No internal combustion engines within 800 meters
