Fashion

Old French farcon, from latin facere ‘do, make’.

The fashion industry of today is becoming very repetitive and I find this quite bland. If fashion continues this way, I have come to the conclusion that it will no longer be sustainable as a creative and experimental industry.

Future fashion – to me, is the idea of using new and existing techniques and concepts to create new design ideas and process that leads to creative design and fashion outcomes.

Whether new fashion becomes a technique, use of technology, unique use of an ordinary sustainable fabric that is transformed into something beautiful. It could be a forecast of how the world around us will change, and how we can create a fashion to adapt to these changes.

Materials determine how a designer works. With the limitations of money in today’s economic climate and the need to recycle and use sustainable fabrics. This is a barrier that we need to cross.

If materials used are sustainable we can continue creating. If we then develop an understanding that fashion is not just a pair of jeans or a t-shirt.

We can go on to push the boundaries of fashion and develop new thought processes. We can introduce children into creating fashion pieces that are individual, teaching skills of customizing, reusing and creating.

We begin to create and nurture our future designers. We create fashion as play!

“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put my childish ways behind me.”1. Corinthians.13

“Bring back the creativity of childhood.” Amy – Fashion as Play

Using these shapes only and materials can you design something to wear on the body. See the pages overleaf which are full of different items and bodies for you to use then make into whatever you like to dress the bodies.

If your feeling up to it, you could always use this as a start and make your own.

I have always been inspired by fashion designers that are not the norm. The cutting and design processes of Aitor Throup are the way I see fashions future.

They are unique and individual and new.

The art of fashion project. Chalayan has always been inspirational to me, He bridges the gap between art, architecture and fashion. Pushing ideas of fashion forward.

Fashion styling and photography that inspire imaginary worlds.

Play

1. engage in games or other activities for enjoyment rather than for serious or practical purpose.2. games and other activities engaged in for enjoyment.

Old English , to exercise

Play is an important part of human development.

Developing skills of play throughout childhood is beneficial.

Creative play is when someone uses materials usually easily available around them to produce a piece of artwork, sculpture, drawing or drawing technique.

It is a way for the person to express themselves through creativity. This technique when used with children, or in an art therapy situation can give the creator confidence in their ideas and self expression.

When using creative play as a design process, it is important to give designers a varied range of media and materials.

By understanding the ways that people learn, we are able to explore and develop teaching processes.

This enables us to use ideas of the creative design process with new learning and teaching techniques.

Creative play is not just for children it can be beneficial to adults and also office environments.

Creative group and design work, is proven to create team building success and sometimes unsuccessful partnerships!

Create

1. bring into existence.2. Make (someone) a member of the nobility3. Brit. Informal make a fuss; complain

Latin creare ‘produce’

chapter one - fashion//chapter two - play//chapter three - create//chapter four - learn

Building structures, placing them on the body and creating an identity for the garment.

Functional fashion, adapting to the worlds they have created.

Every child is born with creative potential, but this potential may be ruined if care is not taken to nurture and stimulate creativity.

Creativity shows one’s uniqueness.

It is the individual saying:“I can be; I can do.”

Creativity is the ability to see things in a new light, to see problems that people may not even realise exist, and then come up with new, unusual and effective solutions to these problems.

Within the zero workshop the student / designer is taught to design for need to design to adapt and design with sustainable materials.

What do you imagine the world will be like in 100 years time?

We at fashion as play ask you to use materials from the environment around you to design an adaptive piece of clothing, body piece or conceptual matter that will become part of your world.

This workshop ignites ideas of creative design processes and thinking.

Have you ever wanted to change something about yourself?

Or have an imaginary friend?

The imaginarium workshop allows you to express yourself by creating a garment, structure or samples by letting young people experiment through writing thoughts, creating drawings and playing with new materials.

You can create your own imaginary friend, alter – ego or body attachment to improve or change your appearance.

The masks workshop is a chance for children to explore their imaginations whilst creating and making using sustainable materials.

Working like real designers and producing drawings then creating and moving on to produce a show or dance to display their work.

The T- shirt customizing workshop that lets children design and alter a t shirt.

We will think of their likes and dislikes and teach them how to express these through design, drawings and experimenting with fabrics, children create their very own t-shirt and designs.

Learn

1. acquire knowledge of or skill in (something) through study or experience or by being taught. 2. become aware of by information or from observation.3. Archaic or informal teach.

chapter one - fashion//chapter two - play//chapter three - create//chapter four - learn

By understanding the ways that people learn we are able to explore and develop teaching processes.

This enables us to incorporate ideas of creative design process.

With new learning and teaching techniques creative play is not just for children it can be beneficial to adults, office environments and even training techniques.

Creative group and design work, can create team building , successful and sometimes unsuccessful partnerships!

Tactile LearnersLearn by interacting

and trying. Very hands on people.

Visual LearnersDraw while they talk

to explain things.

Aural LearnersRemember anything they have ever read or heard

and can repeat it.

Verbal LearnersPeople who listen write lots of notes

learn this way.

WaysOf Learning

Research

The systematic study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.

1. carry out research into.2. use research to discover or verify information to be presented in (a book, programme) French recercher, cerchier ‘to search’

What am I researching?

How fashion is perceived by people of all ages and the ways in which people can learn through creative play.

Exploring the positive outcomes and educating people teaching people new skills.

Teambuilding, Creative expression and discussion not just about fashion but also about design, about concept, about creativity and fun.

How we can change future fashion through exploring design.

Teaching young people new ideas.

How creative play can make people respond in many different ways.

Branding is overly important.

Creating partnerships and gaining mentors.

How to create a successful buisness.

Develop new workshops by looking at design from all aspects.

How people from many age groups respond to fashion.

What am I learning from this experience.
