NETWORK SIMULATOR-2 (ns-2)
CSI
ns-2 stands for Network Simulator version 2 which is a
discrete event network simulator publically available
under GNU license for research, development and use.
This provides substantial support to simulate bunch of
protocols like TCP, UDP, FTP, HTTP and DSR. This
simulator is widely used in simulation of both wired and
wireless (local and satellite) networks and their
performance evaluation. As on date, this tool is most
popular experimental environment amongst research
communities in the area of networking.
The objective of this faculty development program is to
disseminate the knowledge on network technology by
understanding its complexities using simulation. This
would help in enhancement of their teaching skills as
well as contribute significantly to their research efforts
in the related areas.
ns-2 provides, opportunity to the faculty members to
• Understand Network Simulation Tool - ns2.
• In-depth exposure to computer networking.
• Simulate and analyze the network protocols and
models.
• Increase the scope of network experimentation.
• Identify innovative research ideas in the field of
networking.
