Language Exam

Powerpoint TemplatesPage 2

Los

• Have a full, comprehensive understanding of what is required in the exam tomorrow

Powerpoint TemplatesPage 3

Today

I know what you’re required to do...

I’m going to share with you some key information.

Powerpoint TemplatesPage 4

Firstly

• Your exam script is scanned and then chopped up! LOL

• The examiner NEVER sees a complete script (unless in exceptional circumstances)

• So you really need to serve it up. Also, they’ve changed the way it’s marked!

My Top Tips

• Number 1

• Know the exam – you have the sheet. Learn what you’re being asked to do in each question. e.g. Know before you even read Source 2 that this is the one you’ll be asked about presentation etc.

• Number 2• Timing, timing, timing, timing, timing, timing,

timing, timing, timing, timing. ALWAYS TIMING.

• The most marks in the exam are in the final question. DO NOT run out of time.

• Look at the clock in the exam and check time per question. If you’re taking too long, skip and go back to it...

Q4

• Number 3

• Compare in Q4 – a linked point and PEE+ sandwich will help you structure this.

• Number 4

• In section b, get the basics right! You WILL look like a total doof if you get there, their and they’re wrong.

Powerpoint TemplatesPage 9

Content/ Communication

• i.

• On the back of your candidate number, wherever, write linguistic devices or words, ones you remember and ones you see.

(What can you steal??!!)

This is actually

inaccurate so don’t do it in the exam

Organisation

• ii• Paragraphs change with topic, place, time.• Link the end and start of next paragraph • Include a single sentence paragraph. • Link the beginning and the end of a text.

Have a key word. Start with a question and link to it at the end.

• Include a range of discourse markers.

Accuracy

• iii• Sentence accuracy and variation.

Check list:• Capital letters and full-stops (yes, really)• ?!.;:()... (do not overuse any of these though)

(otherwise it looks a bit weird). • Single word sentence for impact.• Embedded clauses, subordinate clause first.• Accurate apostrophes• The four freakin sentence variations!
