First Sunday of Lent March 1, 2020
Every year on the First Sunday of Lent the gospel is an account of Jesus’ temptation in the desert. St. Luke shows how Jesus resisted the devil’s tempting by food, power and pride. For most of us, the temptations we incur are much more subtle and sneaky. Yet, the method Jesus uses will help us overcome the tricks of the devil. Jesus is always calm. When we remain calm, we are able to see temptations more clearly and avoid them. Jesus names the temptation. By naming it, we are more conscious of the temptation. Finally, Jesus is attentive. He realizes that the devil is trying to pull him off course, just like he tries to do to us. It is important to remember that as long as we have a pulse, we will have temptations.

The Catholic Faith Facts Are you tired of being asked
questions about your Catholic faith from loved ones, friends or
co-workers - and NOT being able to give an answer? If this sounds like you – please
consider joining the Catholic Faith Facts Apologetics Course here at St. Rose of Lima. You will learn how to
give Biblical answers for your faith as well as the corresponding references from the Catechism. You will
gain a clearer understanding about subjects like the Mass, defending Marian doctrines, the Eucharist, Purgatory,
praying to the saints, and many more. Classes are in room 8 at 7:00pm. We will be meeting on the
2nd Wednesday of each month.

R.C.I.A. Dismissal Sessions
Perhaps you’ve seen the Catechumens (unbaptized) and Candidates (already baptized) being “dismissed” after the Homily at the Sunday 9 AM Mass, exiting down the center aisle and wondered, “where are they going and
what are they doing”? The Catechumens and Candidates are not yet fully initiated Catholics and cannot partake in the Eucharist. So they are “Dismissed” to a private area to discuss what they just heard. The Dismissal Session focuses on a greater understanding of the Readings and Homily just proclaimed. They are asked to reflect on the Readings and Homily and to apply the teachings to their lives. What did I hear? What does it mean to me in my life? and What changes do I need to make in my life from what I’ve heard today? This reflection and sharing takes place in the Dismissal Session. So when they are “dismissed”. They are continuing, rather than ending their worship. They go out after the Liturgy of the Word to reflect more deeply on what they have just heard and experienced. We can all ask ourselves these questions and reflect on them, especially during this upcoming Lenten Season. As their Church Family, please continue to pray for our Catechumens and Candidates as they discern their readiness to become Fully Initiated Catholics.
Our new Bible Study will be on the Book of Genesis. We will begin on Thursday, April 16.
Bible Study is held at St. Rose of Lima School in room 8 at 7pm on Thursday evenings.

STRENGTH AGAINST TEMPTATION The first Sunday of the season of Lent always includes a Gospel account of the temptation of the Lord Jesus in the desert by the devil. This year, the story is set against the backdrop of the first reading from Genesis, which recounts the very first temptation by the devil. That story is set in a garden of delight. The Gospel story is set in the desert. As believers, we know that temptation comes our way in our own gardens of delight as well as the deserts of our lives. As Lent begins, our attention is drawn to that temptation within each of us to become like God—we want control, power, and answers to all of life’s difficult questions. As communities of faith, we are given this season of repentance so that we can join our hearts with others on the difficult journey of conversion. We look to God and to one another for strength against temptation. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

DID YOU KNOW? Talk about chat room dangers with your teen
Online chat rooms are great places for people to connect over shared interests and ideas. But for young children and teenagers who may not be internet-savvy, they’re also a great place for predators to lay groundwork. In a chat room, anyone can be whomever they want —
and predators hide behind personas of friends. Talk to your child about online safety rules, such as never agreeing to meet in person and never providing personal and identifying information. Review
chats frequently to ensure that your child is engaging in safe conversations. For more tips on chat room safety, request a copy of
the VIRTUS® article “Exposing the Dangers of Internet Chat Rooms” at: https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/printarticle.cfm?

¿Sabia Usted?

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
