Hello Church Members and Friends!
With Thanksgiving right around the corner I want to chal-
lenge everyone to do something. I am calling it the “What are you Thankful For Challenge!” During this month I will be
asking you from the pulpit, in Text Messages, in emails and on
Facebook for what SPECIFICALLY you want to give God
thanks. You might be saying to yourself at this point, “Come
on Pastor Mark, that is what we do every year!” I pray that is
true for everyone. However, do you write them all down?
On the lines below I want you to start writing down all of
your blessings. Don’t forget to be SPECIFIC...don’t just write
down the word EVERYTHING.

Now that you are done, go back and pray for the people
who have made all of these blessings possible! I know you
have more than 10 blessings so keep writing your blessing on
our “What are you Thankful For Challenge” poster board
when you come to church, or we will add blessings to it that
we receive in texts, emails or posts. Pastor Mark

November Give Thanks As we begin our month of Thanksgiving, we reflect and are thankful for all of our wonderful events in October. I especially am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Music Director. It is a blessing each week to work with so many talented people. Our SNL nights have been a real inspiration and have show-cased such wonderful talent. This has been a real blessing for our church, our community and especially to me. As tragedy unfolded in Las Vegas, God had given Kay Sher-bert the perfect music to play for our Offertory. Her beautiful piano solo of “People Need the Lord” could not have been more needed and appropriate….so true and so beautiful. Our first SNL group , Buddy and Ina Gore, gave us a wonderful night of gospel music…. such a sweet Christian couple. Ina is an amazing song writer with a gift of storytelling. Despite being sick, she sang beautifully, as she and Buddy blessed us with their talent. Great start for our SNL. That morning we had a beautiful solo by Liz Riveire. She and Martha did a contemporary rendi-tion of Rock of Ages. It was wonderful to hear Liz as a soloist, since she is usually doing an alto part with others. She has a wonderfully clear, beautiful voice. She must sing again, soon. Our next SNL was David Crain. What a fun and inspiring evening! We had a great crowd of our congregation and lots of Baptist! Ha! It was nice to see the response to David. Hope he will come back again. His humor and music are a marvelous way to present God and His Word in a memora-ble way. Maxine Moore, my sister, was soloist that morning. She has had a great singing career in several symphony chorales. Maxine is a teacher in the alternative school in Jacksonville, since retiring from teaching in the prison system in Palestine. Needless to say, she has lots of patience. She and my oth-er sisters were in town to visit and I am thrilled she agreed to sing for us. Maxine sang with the Ty-ler Civic Chorale at their 50th Anniversary concert on Oct. 29th. Dorcie is always a blessing and we loved hearing her organ solo on Youth Sunday. The beautiful music Dorcie and Martha play each week is so wonderful. Thank you both for the joy you provide. Oct. 22nd our youth were in charge of the morning service and did a great job, as did the moms singing “And All the People Said Amen.” Chad Chaney Band was our SNL feature. Chad and Victor are very talented Christian musicians and were so eager to share their music and story with us at FUMC. Chad writes and sings his own songs and also sang several songs of Chris Tom-lin , his mentor. The youth and the mature in the service really enjoyed the Spirit of the Lord in Chad and Victor’s music. Oct 29th was Gospel / Story night. We sang lots of spirituals and heard the story of their origin. Congregation sang and had a joyous time together. We had 3 visitors. So, far we have had about 3 people come to SNL, just because they happened to see the sign that something was happening at our church! If you have not attended, please do so this month. You are missing a great blessing from all these talented people. Our music for November in-cludes, Jarvis Christian College, Ashley Lagunas ( Christian song writer and evangelist/musician from DFW), Tyler Junior College and our own , McAdams Family. Don’t miss any of these. The music and the performers are all amazing and will truly be a blessing to you. You will be humming some of these tunes and repeating stories for weeks to
come. Thankful to be serving

A Time to Give Thanks
It is the time of year that we get to take a mo-

Hello All,
Thank you to the ladies who came to our October meeting. We enjoyed fellowship and refreshments. We made 14 Blessing Bags for our area homeless. We planned to make 10 but with our dona-tions of items we were able to stretch it. Please pick up a Bless-ing Bag from the church foyer if you think you may come in con-tact with someone who can use it. We plan to ring The Salvation Army bell the first full week of December: December 2nd – 9th. I will place a sign up sheet in the church foyer. The first day will be at the Grand Saline Library during the Cocoa and Carols event (if we are approved) and the days after that will be at Brookshires. Last year was very successful – let’s do it again! Hopefully, it won’t be so cold! We will not meet again until the spring. That is when we will plan our spring Movie Night. I will let you know when that meeting is on the schedule. Blessings to All,
Marilyn

What a MONTH!
Now to be fair, I've always just adored October, but this year was really special for me. The Tribe and our MYF had an unusually busy month! Every single member of MYF came to National Night Out--it was great to see them out being part of our community. We made and served 42 kettles of popcorn, and Kailey's balloon animals were a big hit!
The Tribe stayed busy this month. Earlier this month, they hosted the Mineola UMC kids for a night of games, play, and a pizza before hearing Chad Chaney sing at our Sunday Night Live service.
They prayed about and prepared for their Youth Service. Planning and delivering a worship service is really quite something. Public speaking is daunting in and of itself, but to be charged with leading your friends and family in historic recitations, prayers, and the reading of God's Holy Word is an awesome responsibility. To stand with trem-bling knees and deliver those words took lots of courage and faith. I am so proud of them all.
The haunted barn and barbecue made it the perfect Halloween for me. So many happy memories--sweet Diane Ingrim, after being tapped on the shoulder by a spook in a pitch black hallway, turning to her innocent husband and hissing, "Did you do that? Stop it!"--Ron Sherbert comforting a sweet little cowgirl throughout the haunted house--Liz, who giggles when frightened--and Gavin Pedersen's triumphant, "I'm 100%!" after scaring/surprising every person who went through. I loved it that the kids wanted to stay after it was over. The time in the kitchen with them was really special to me. I think the kids had a ball, and I can only hope that Danny had half as much fun as I
had! I'd like to thank you all for supporting our youth groups! I love you all!! Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young,
Blair But set an example for the believers in speech,
In conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” —1 Tim 4:12
