FISHERIES DEPARTMENT OF CHHATTISGARH

The Fisheries department of Chhattisgarh is responsible for the production, preservation, protection and improvement of stocks, fisheries development .

The Fisheries department takes the help from central department in the formulation of policies and programmes in the field of fisheries.

The Development has made Chhattisgarh requisite infrastructure in different parts of the state for improving productivity, Preservation and protection of livestock through provision of health care.

With Strengthening of livestock farms for development of superior germplasm for distribution in states and Expansion of aquaculture in fresh, brackish water and welfare of fisher folk.

For improving fish productivity the village ponds are increased per hectare. Inland fisheries are an integral component of rural development programme..

Under the programme of giving assistance to scheduled tribes and scheduled castes fishermen is being carried out which aims at providing subsidy up to a maximum limit of Rs. 12000/-15000/-.

The fisheries department is mostly culture based. The major carp fish group always play a leading role. There is availability of 59384 ponds covering 0.751 lakhs hectare water area is the main asset on which culture

fisheries rest.

The State Government has sanctioned Rs 2crore for the purchase of fishing nets and ice-boxes which will be distributed free of cost to the beneficiaries.
