CALORIMETER
NURUL LAILATIS SA’ADAH
Purpose
• Understand the principle of black
• Understand the working principle of the calorimeter
• Determinethe specific heat of solid materials using a calorimeter
Calorimeter is a device used to measure
the amount of calor that is involved in a
change or a chemical reaction. (Wikipedia,
2014)
Basic Theory
The amount of heat absorbed or released by a
substance magnitude
1. directly proportional to the mass of substance
2. directly proportional to the temperature
changes
3. depends on the type of substance
Basic Theory
Basic Theory
Can be expressed mathematically in the form of
equation
ΔQ = m . C . ΔTWith,ΔQ = heat absorbed or releasedm = mass of subtancec = specific heat ΔT = temperatur (C) or (K)
Tools and materials
1. calorimeter complete with a stirrer, and a protective
vessel
2. materials will be determined calorific kind
3. technical sheet
4. small measuring cup
5. various types of metals to be determined calorific kind
6. Heater
7. steam generators

Observational Data
Data Analysis
C cal =
Ccal1 = 134,51 J/
Ccal2 = 156,14 J/
Ccal3 = 209,25 J/
Ccal1 = 166,67 J/
C metal =
Cpinch beck = 744,375 J/kg
Ciron = 925,1819 J/kg
RE = 29,61 %
RE = 11,64 %
Data Analysis
The greater the mass amount of hot water and
cold water are used, the greater the heat
capacity of the calorimeter, but the temperature
at the end stays the same
DisscussionDetermine the heat
capacity of kalorimeter
Ccal3 > Ccal2 > Ccal1
Substance C (kJ/kg C)
Alumunium 0,900
Iron 0,448
Pinch bech 0,380
Gold 0,126
DisscussionDetermine the specific
heat of metal
Cpinch beck = 744,375 J/kg
Ciron = 925,1819 J/kg
(from) Data Analysis
(Tipler,1991)
Why is different?
Conclussion
• The calor of calorimeter is 166,67 J/C
• The specific heat of pinch beck is 744,375
J/Kg C
• The specific heat of iron is 925,1819 J/kg
C
Incompatibility with the experiment results of the data table is caused by several things
1. Errors in the practicum
2. Less precise calculation
3. Slipshod
4. Performance tools that are not maximal
