We accept the challenge!www.andritz.com nonwoven eXcellence
Convenience is a general demand
nowadays and environmental pollution
a big threat to civilisation. That’s why
today’s disposable nonwoven products
should be convenient in handling, sustain-
able and environmentally friendly, as well
as cost-effective. Flushability has become
one of the major targets for wipes produc-
ers when it comes to Moist Toilette Tissues
(MTT). State-of-the-art flushable wipes are
made from fully biodegradable fibers, have
adequate strength while in use, and then
disperse quickly in municipal sewage sys-
tems. Fabrics produced using the ANDRITZ
WetlaceTM* nonwoven process already
complied with the EDANA/INDA flushability
standards in 2011 and again in 2013, pass-
ing all seven tests according to the new
guidelines.

ANDRITZ nonwoven process WetlaceTM
Combining wet forming and hydroentanglement
The original WetlaceTM nonwoven pro-
cess has been developed by ANDRITZ
and combines wet forming and hy-
droentanglement. It has proven ideal
for producing flushable wipes from 100%
natural and/or renewable raw materials
without chemical binders.
The material needs excellent dry tensile
strength during production because it is
pulled by the winder through the different
stages of the process. During conversion it
is moistened and packed, and the end-user
expects a wet wipe that does not disinte-
grate before and during use. Once flushed,
however, this stability has to disappear
completely.
These contradictory properties are
achieved with the innovative WetlaceTM
technology. The main impact comes from
the fiber blend of the wood pulp and man-
made cellulosic fibers, the wet web forming
on the inclined wire, and mechanical bond-
ing of the web by the hydroentanglement
unit. Wetlaid production is perfect in terms
of achieving excellent web uniformity and
product quality. Hydroentanglement ide-
ally complements the wetlaid technology by
creating entangling of the fibers without any
chemical binders or thermoplastic fibers.
The extensive process know-how within the
ANDRITZ GROUP, based on long years of
experience in turnkey projects for the paper
and nonwovens industries, has resulted in
a comprehensive technology solution to this
challenge all from just one source.
