Amul rolls out outlets in Gujarat jails
India’s largest co‐operative, Gujarat Co‐operative Milk Marketing Federation popularlyknown as Amul has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat’s prisondepartment for setting up its outlets in the jail premises. Popular products such as
lavoured milk, ice cream, srikhand and buttermilk will be available for the prisoners,f
their relatives who come to visit them and the jail officials.
The co‐operative has a plan of setting up a total of 20 outlets in different jails of the state.As of now, two outlets, one at Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Jail and the other one at Surat jail
have already been opened. The outlets are opened near the main gate of the jail so that
the commoners can also have access to these outlets. The jail inmates can place order
from inside and the price will be deducted from their allowances. In addition to this, the
o‐operative has also announced that 2% of the profit earned from these outlets will go tocthe prisoner’s welfare fund for carrying out various welfare activities for these inmates.
Amul, a popular age old brand of India has always remained its consumer’s favourite with
its quality products and crunchy ad campaigns. Opening up of outlets in jails, is
completely a new concept which will enable it to cater to a different base of consumers,hereby increasing market share as well as contributing towards welfare activities for the
ail inmates.

A range of olive oil brands enter the edible oil market The Indian edible oil market is witnessing the launch of a wide range of olive oil brands.
In the last one year, almost forty brands have entered the market both from local traders
as well as the imported ones. Modi Naturals, a major domestic brand has recently
aunched its brand “Oleev” in the North Indian market. Adani Wilmar also announced that n
lthey will be soon launching their global partner’s olive oil bra d in India.
The newly launched brand by Modi Naturals is a blend of olive oil with rice bran oil,which will be marketed under the name ‘Oleev Active’. As of now, the company is focusing
n the consumers living in metropolitan cities but, it also has plans to reach the smaller
ities and towns soon.

Wine lovers of India will soon get a chance to taste the premium wines of Germany. In arecent meeting for importers, industry experts and media in Delhi, it was highlighted that

Germany harboured 48,000 wine producers and they are the world’s largest producer of Riesling.
The officials also expressed their interest on promoting top‐end German wines along withother premium products in the Indian market. In terms of taste, German wines suits withhe Indian climate. The price is also cheaper as compared to other brands. India imports
round 250,000 cases of wine annually.

PepsiCo and LT Foods join hands to boost Kurkure business
PepsiCo, the global food and beverage player has entered into a business tie up with
Delhi‐based LT Foods to boost up production as well as sales of its popular snack brand‘Kurkure’. As per this agreement, LT Foods which has the popular Basmati rice brand,
Daawat’ under its product portfolio will be involved in manufacturing, processing and‘
packaging of Kurkure.
Daawat Foods Ltd has set up a production plant at Kamaspur, near Sonepat, Haryana
which has a production capacity of around 796 tonnes per month. As of now, theworkforce at the plant will be getting training from the PepsiCo team. LT Foods also
howed their interest in producing other products such as oats with PepsiCo in the
pcoming future.

afe Coffee Day (CCD) has come up with a range of new variants in its cold beveragesC
segment. The new additions are Frosteas and Lemonades.
The lemon Frosteas will be available in three flavours – Lemon Pomegranate, Lemon
Cranberry and Lemon Cucumber. Lemon Pomegranate will have original pomegranateflavour with red jelly chunks, Lemon Cranberry will be a cranberry flavoured drink with

New entrant in the Energy drink market ‘Tzinga’ Tzinga has forayed into the energy drink market with its newly launched flavours. The
hree flavours are Mango‐Strawberry, Lemon Mint and the mixed fruit flavour‐ Tropicalt
Trip.
The drink is being positioned as a healthy beverage which contains ginseng, which is a
naturally occurring herb having anti‐carcinogenic and anti‐oxidant properties. Moreover,
it’s a blend of caffeine and guarana, which provides the required energy to the bodyithout the crash that follows highly with most other energy drinks. As of now, the

DS Group to pump in INR 65 mn in its new milk -based powdered drink brand
'Yomil'
Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group, which has popular brand such as ‘Catch’ and ‘Pass‐Pass’
nder its product portfolio has decided to invest INR 65 mn for building its new milk‐ubased powdered drink brand 'Yomil'.
Yomil will be available in ready‐to‐drink format, where one has to just add water to it in
order to prepare the shake for consumption. The company has planned to utilize the fund
in procuring machineries for production, marketing activities and all other activitiesssociated with establishment of the brand. In addition to this, the company wishes to sell

he leading edible oil brand Dhara has recently launched its new marketing campaignT
"India Ka Tadka" to promote its range of edible oils.
The Television Campaign (TVC) focuses on the Indians who crave for fried foods but, are
reluctant to have it owing to the growing awareness on health and fitness. The TVC
highlights the fact that consumption of more than one variant of oil is good for health inorder to get balanced quantity of saturated fatty acids (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acids

The local distilleries of Andhra Pradesh (AP) have approached the High Court requestingthe authority to modify and reframe the existing AP Excise act 1968. Due to certain
ambiguities in this law, the local distilleries were being restricted from manufacturing

and selling the ready‐to‐drink (RTD) liquor in the market and this was allowing Bacardito enjoy monopoly in that particular segment.
The Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation Ltd. (APBCL) has already opened price bidoffers to supply IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor‐ other than beer). Three localdistillers have applied for the same but, none of them could qualify due to lack of rules
under AP Excise Act. So, the local distilleries decided to approach the High Court with
heir request to reframe the Act. They are also getting support from APBCL and the exciseepartment is also ready with the draft rules.

Ban on export of branded edible oil in small packs
Government of India has put a ban on export of small packs of branded edible oil. Due to
his ban, branded consumer packs of upto five kilos will be restricted from gettingt
exported to other nations.
The decision has been taken keeping in view the current deficit of rainfall in the country,
which might take a toll on productivity of oilseeds. Kharif crops such as groundnut areighly affected due to poor monsoon condition. Moreover, key growing states such as
ujarat, Karnataka and Rajasthan are facing drought‐like situation.

Government revises import tariffs on vegetable oil Government of India has decided to revise the import tariffs on refined, bleached and
deodorised (RBD) palmolein oil by raising the rate of RBD palmolein to INR 58,173 per
onne. Earlier to this, the cabinet has also abolished the six year‐old INR 26,739 tariff andt made it market linked.
For the last six years, the tariff remained unchanged affecting several vegetable oil
manufacturers such as Ruchi Soya Industries, Liberty Oil, Adani Wilmer and Cargill India
to underutilize their capacities. Moreover, the Indian market was also getting affected
due to the increase in export duty of crude palm oil (CPO) to 16.5% and reduction of xport duty on refined palmolein to 8% by Indonesia which is the largest exporter of CPO
o India.

FSSAI announces strict guidelines for imported food samples
The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced that from nowonwards imported food samples have to comply with the laboratory parameters that
ave been set in the new guidelines. The guidelines have been fixed after consultationhwith the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore.
FSSAI has provided a list of 37 categories of imported food along with the details on the
limits of contents and methods of analysis to be followed. These food categories will beiven clearance to be used in the Indian food industry only when they will meet the set
tandards of these guidelines.

Cold chain projects get approval from MoFPI Finally, 28 cold chain projects worth INR 6.2 bn received approval from the Ministry of
ood Processing Industries (MoFPI). The MoFPI applies the Scheme of Integrated ColdF
Chain, Value Addition & Preservation Infrastructure for the development of cold chains.
As per this scheme, financial support in the form of grant‐in‐aid at 50% of the total cost of
plant and machinery and technical civil works in general areas, and at 75% of the total
cost of plant and machinery and technical civil works in difficult areas including north‐eastern states subject to a maximum of INR 100 mn is provided. In addition to this, for
monitoring and checking proper implementation of these projects, an Inter Ministerial
Group (IMG) has been formed under the chairmanship of the secretary, Ministry of Agriculture.

Expansion Plans Onjus sets up subsidiary in Sri Lanka
Tunip Agro, the company behind packaged fruit juice brand, Onjus has decided to
establish new subsidiary ‐ Tunip Lanka Private Ltd in Sri Lanka. For this, the company
as invested an amount of INR 750 mn. Prior to this expansion, the company was alreadyh
having a joint venture (JV) with Lanka Milk Foods in Sri Lanka.
At present, the production of Onjus is done by Godrej Hershey at its manufacturing basein Mandideep in Madhya Pradesh with a production capacity of 1.2 million litres per year.
With the establishment of this new subsidiary, the production capacity is expected to
reach 39 million litres every year. In addition to this, the company also plans to go for
roduct expansion into categories such as ketchup, mayonnaise and dairy products in theeady‐to‐drink category.

Fresh investment infused by Nestle in India
Nestle has planned to invest more in India in order to enhance the production capacities
f its manufacturing plants. Along with the productivity improvement, the company alsooaims to generate jobs for around 250 people.
The company will go for extension of its existing plant at Ponda in Goa which will
manufacture chocolate brands such as Kit Kat and Munch. Financial support for this willcome from the company’s investment of INR 7 bn that it has been investing over the past
three years for supporting various business activities in the state. Apart from this, a newproduction facility at Nanjangud in Karnataka for manufacturing Maggi sauces, noodles,
bouillons and seasoning, and another facility at Tahliwal in Himachal Pradesh for
producing Maggi noodles, chocolate and confectionery products will be set up.

Vadilal infuses INR 306.2 mn for expansion
Vadilal Industries Limited has recently announced about its investment of INR 306.2 mn
for expanding and modernizing its ice‐cream production facilities at Pundhra in Gujarat
nd at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. In addition to this, the company also plans to improviseaits processed food division situated at Dharampur in Gujarat.
This decision of infusing fresh investments for expansion was done in response to the
superb financial performance of the company in the first quarter of 2012. The companywitnessed a 59% jump in net profit at INR 137.8 mn. Last year also the company has gone
or expansion in production capacities and aggressive marketing campaigns during the

Yo! China to enter the cafe market Yo! China, the Chinese fast‐food restaurant chain owned by the Moods Hospitality Group
as recently announced that they will open 10 youth‐friendly cafes over the next one yearh
which will be known as ‘Yo! China Cafe’.
These large format cafes will have an average built‐up area of 2,000 sq ft and will serve
alcohol and specialty desserts along with other delicious dishes. In addition to this,
