The Problem…MICRONUTRIENT MALNUTRION
• High Micro Nutrient Deficiency among general
masses and especially among children and women
–High anaemia level despite decades of efforts
especially among children and women
–Prevalence of Neural Tube Defects due to
deficiency of Folic Acid
–Vitamin A and Vitamin D not consumed as
recommended dose
• Problem cut cross – all sections of the society not
only in marginalized section.

Rajasthan Budget Announcement 2015-16
• Budget Announcement No. 134: Micronutrient Fortification to
prevent malnourishment
• Fortification of Wheat Flour with NaFeEDTA (Sodium Iron Ethylene
Diamine Tetra Acetate), Folic Acid and Vitamin B-12, Fortification of
Edible Oil with Vitamin A and D and Iodine& Iron Fortified Double
Fortified Salt.
• Fortified items would be supplied using PDS network.
• Fortified Wheat Flour: 10 Kg/ Family/ Month proposed;
An innovative project started by IIHMR and GAIN in two tribal blocks ofUdaipur; Sarada and Salumbar.
The project has two broad objectives:
� To motivate owners of small chakki in the village to fortify wheat flour withIron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12
� To create awareness and encourage use of fortified wheat flour amongrural families
Support Provided– Premix Support through IPS-Project;
– Capacity buidling all 200 chakki owners;
– Flex Charts provided showing mixing of premix;
– Container for premix storage provided and other logistic support;

Progress So Far
�Wheat flour fortification being done in 200 small
chakkis
�More than 11,000 MT fortified wheat flour have
been produced by the chakkis.
�Around than 6000 households are benefitted on
monthly basis.
�Awareness activities like Community Meetings, SHG
meetings, School Awareness, Street Plays are done
on regular basis.
�Baseline study and Mid Term Review conducted
