During Victorian times Britain changed a lot.

Transport, medicine and jobs changed life.

Trade and industry improved.

British society changed.

A farmer's wages were very bad.

people wanted more work and wages.

Lots of people moved away from the countryside.

Many small towns became busy cities.

There were many new inventions.

Thomas Edison was a famous American inventor.

Edison's electric light was an important invention.

He invented the first light bulb in 1880.

New machines were created all over the world.

An Italian man called Marconi invented the radio.

In Italy people were not interested in his ideas.

Marconi moved to Britain to develop his invention.

Alexander Graham Bell was an important inventor.

He was born in Scotland in 1847.

He moved to Boston in America.

He invented the telephone in 1876.

George Stephenson invented the first locomotive.

He invented a steam engine to move coal.

He made a special engine called the Rocket.

It travelled at 30 miles per hour.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel was a famous engineer.

He built steam ships.

The ships travelled from Britain to America.

He was the chief engineer of a railway.

New inventions changed people's lives.

Railways and ships improved transport.

The telephone and radio improved communication.

The victorian era had many major development.
