ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT OF WHY PRAY

Change our attitude and change the approach and the focus of our prayer.. that we will no longer pray how this will benefit us but the centre focus of our prayer is how You are going to be glorified through this answer.

We no longer prayed for our benefit …and when the assistance comes, we want it to glorify You more than we want it to benefit us.

Dr Richard Goetz (13 July 2014)

GLORIFYING GOD IS PRIORITY #1

Slide by Dr Richard Goetz (13 July 2014)

GLORIFYING GOD IN PRAYERInstead of praying Pray this now:

God, please give me good grades …

God, let my good grades glorify you so others can see how you care for an average student like me

God, please give us more money …

God, provide for us so that others are encouraged to trust you for their needs

God, help me get along with my parents …

God, let your love and gentleness be evident in me so that my family can glorify you for the change they see in me.

Focus on glorifying God and not you

HOW DO I PRAY?

Is there a magic formula ?

Is there a pattern I should follow?

Matt 6: 9-13

“This, then, is how you should pray:

THE LORD’S PRAYERMatthew 6:9-13 (NIV)

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

• Recognise who God is• Recognise that we have a

special relationship with Him

• Submit to the rule & reign of God today, on earth

• In heaven, everything is done to God’s perfect plan.

• Acknowledge that He is worthy of our worship and praise

THE LORD’S PRAYERGive us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

• God wants us to look to Him each day for our daily needs

• Requesting God’s guidance and protection from the things that hurt us spiritually

• A right relationship with God only comes when we have a right relationship with others

PATTERN OF PRAYER

A balanced prayer consists of

• Worship

• Praise

• Requests

• Confessions

• More praise & thanksgiving
