WelcomeTo The 48Th NaTioNal YouTh aNd ChrisTiaN eduCaTioN CoNveNTioN
I welcome our delegates, Pastor Richard J. Brown and The Renaissance to this special National Youth & CE Convention. May we together experience the rich empowering presence of God.
As qualifying tournaments take place all around the world for the London 2012 Olympics, 15.6% of 16-24 year olds in England are NEET (not in education, employment or training). These and other challenges, can sometimes make the chances of qualifying to succeed in life’s race seem remote. However, there is a slogan that says, “You have to be in it to win it”, so whether your goal is spiritual, educational, vocational, relational, or otherwise, qualification is necessary if you are Going4Gold. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend”, and that is why we have gathered here this weekend; to focus our hearts on the instructions from our coach, the Holy Spirit, overcome distractions and improve our living techniques. So let us be in prayer for our friends and peers throughout this weekend as we cheer each other on through The Qualifiers.
Revd Ruben KingNational Youth & CE DirectorEngland & Wales
Greetingfrom The admiNisTraTive Bishop
I am privileged yet again to extend greetings to Revd. Ruben King, his leadership team and all delegates to this the 48th National Youth and Christian Education Convention of our Church. I praise God for His grace and favour, and join the Prophet Samuel in saying “Hitherto hath the Lord helped us”.
The theme for this convention, The Qualifiers and indeed the Going for Gold emphasis over the next two years speaks not only to young people, but to all who are engaged in the work of the Kingdom of God. They speak of work and reward. The fact is that our salvation has been externally purchased by Christ in His redeeming work on Calvary; we do not have to work for it, we receive it by faith. However, we have to work for the reward which awaits all those who faithfully serve the Lord, and like the athletes who discipline themselves to qualify for a race, so we who are engaged in the work of Christ must discipline ourselves to receive the eternal reward. We must be prepared in every way: physically, psychologically and spiritually in order to qualify. To hear Christ say “Well done good and faithful servant…” is what our work is all about and it is my prayer that this convention will energise and propel us to do more for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dr. Eric A. Brown FRSAAdministrative Bishop

Greetingfrom The NaTioNal YouTh & Ce Board
On behalf of the National Youth & CE board it is a special privilege to welcome all delegates to our 48th annual convention. A warm welcome goes to our guest speaker Rev. Richard Brown and guest artiste The Renaissance. This convention sees us embarking on a new trilogy – “Going4Gold”. A fitting theme for the church, with the climate that we are in at present. With much eyes are on the London 2012 Olympics and the Youth Department’s golden (50th) anniversary 2013 - Olympic ‘spirit’ is in the air! If anyone was asked to name an Olympian many would say ‘Usain Bolt’ or ‘Dame Kelly Holmes’. This weekend I would like you to think of Derek Redmond, a British runner who was tipped for gold in his race during the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Unfortunately in the course of the race he went down with a torn hamstring, however through his pain he struggled to his feet and started to hop on the other leg, determined to finish the race. As he approached the finishing line, and to the amazement of the crowd, his father jumped out of the stands, came to the aid of his son and the two walked side by side and completed the course with the crowds cheering them on.
This weekend, with determination, commitment and a clear focus, let us ‘run the race’. If anyone is struggling be reminded that the Father is here to walk along side you and as a congregation let us be there for each other. By the end of this weekend you will have qualified for the race that is set before you – pace yourself well and enjoy.

When destiny calls it’s not always when one is old. Such was the road for Pastor Richard J. Brown when at the tender
age of nine he accepted Jesus Christ into his life as his Lord and Saviour.
Richard Junior Brown was born in Birmingham, England. Beginning in his youth up to this present time, the ministry of praise and worship emanates through him. He migrated to Canada in 1990 and began serving in Ministry not knowing the impact his ministry would have on the City of Toronto and the nation. RJ Brown Ministries, birthed in Europe has expanded beyond the nation of Canada, being received throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Nigeria and Australia. Where ever he ministers he has received the reputation for delivering dynamic, sound word and worship ministry.
His educational goals led him to Tyndale University College and Seminary where between 1999 – 2001 he studied the Bachelors Degree of Religious Education and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity, majoring in Pastoral Counselling. Utilizing the education he received, Pastor Brown works with the City of Toronto as a counsellor specializing in Chronic Substance Abuse and Addiction.
Affectionately known as “The Chief Levite,” Pastor Brown has authored and produced many worship songs that continue to bless people around the world. More recently he wrote and performed on his debut live worship project, “Heart of a Worshipper,” produced by Daniel Weatherspoon for Zhanre Music Group.
In line with his divine destiny, presently, Pastor Brown serves as Founder & Senior Pastor of Kingsway Community Life Centre in the heart of Toronto. Pastor Brown presently resides in Toronto with his wife Paula, and their children; Monique, Jazmin, Daijohn and Xavier. The couple also serve as surrogate parents to many in the church and community.

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?
Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:14-26 (NIV)

Context:Self Harm is often a subject youth workers are frightened by. This seminar aims to help you consider your response from having ‘a hunch’ a young person is Self Harming, knowing best practice procedures and supporting young people coping with self injury. The Eating Disorder training will focus on triggers, causes, and understanding how to – and not to – respond to teenagers who struggle with issues around food. It will help you consider how you plan food on residentials, how you use food in youth work and how teenagers facing this issue might respond.
Learning Outcomes:Provide tools to consider your response to self 1. harm and eating disorder issues.Understand the challenges and opportunities in 2. youth ministry.Explore how to put your learning into practice. 3.
