From the Desk of Pastor Jim… “Don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Ephesians 4:26.
It’s likely you and the people you live and work with are more short-
tempered than usual this year. This shouldn’t surprise you. There are
many reasons to be angry right now—from being quarantined for long
periods of time to massive job losses to clear examples of injustice
all around and to the extreme division we see in America today. Some
are even angry at the Church now: worship inside or outside, should
we even been meeting at all? Christian worshippers have been
banned from worship in some states or blamed for the outbreak
where they do worship. There is much more I could add to this list!
But anger doesn’t need to win. More than ever, now is the time to
look at how our faith can keep us calm, even during times of
crisis. Anger isn’t always wrong. The Bible tells us that God gets
appropriately angry at sin, too. Jesus was not happy when He drove
the money changers from the Temple either!
But mismanaged anger is a problem, and it’s a sin. Paul address this
in Ephesians by reminding us “Don’t sin by letting anger control you.”
Thankfully, God can help us manage our anger in the midst of the
crazy times we live in. Here are a few teachings from the Word of
God:
1. There is a cost to uncontrolled anger.
You can always identify a price tag on your anger. Proverbs 29:22
says, “An angry person starts fights; a hot-tempered person commits
all kinds of sin.” You’ve likely seen this in your life —and in the lives of
others. Take note of the specific ways anger will cost you and those
you love. The book of Proverbs lists a variety of troubles caused by
anger. Proverbs 14:29 says anger leads to mistakes. Proverbs 14:17
says it leads to foolish actions. Proverbs 11:29 says anger leads to
broken relationships. Anger isn’t worth the price you’ll pay.
2. Resolve to manage your anger.
You have a decision to make: Will you let your anger continue to hurt
yourself and others? Quit saying you can’t control your anger – anger
is a choice we make - and be honest with yourself. With God’s help,
your anger is controllable. Proverbs 29:11 says, “Fools vent their
anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.” Continued on pg. 2

3. Think and pray before reacting.
Pray and think before you speak. Ask yourself, “How can I best
represent Jesus in this moment?” Don’t simply respond
impulsively. James wrote his letter to people who were experiencing
crises and difficulties and trials. That’s why he writes, “Understand
this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen,
slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce
the righteousness God desires.” (James 1:19-20) When people feel
listened to, it reduces their frustration and eases their hurt. Anger
control is really mouth control. You control your temper by taming
your tongue.
4. Release your anger appropriately.
Anger isn’t necessarily the problem. It only becomes a problem when
it’s released inappropriately. Ephesians 4:26 makes this clear: “Don’t
sin by letting anger control you.” Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the
behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a
new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to
know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Many of us express anger in ways that move us further away from the
goal. If we want our hurts healed, frustrations resolved, and fears
relieved, sinful anger will only get in the way.
So, what is the best way to deal with anger? Don’t repress it. That
leads to depression. Don’t express it in inappropriate ways like
sarcasm. Instead, confess it. Let people know you’re hurt. It’s much
easier to deal with fear or frustration than anger. (This is one of the
reasons I play golf with men that I trust! I release the pent up
frustrations on that little ball!)
5. Ask God to fill you with his love.
God’s love is the real secret to transforming us from angry people
into peaceful people. First Corinthians 13:5 tells us love “is not easily
angered.” When we’re filled with God’s love, anger won’t rule us.
Our relationship with Christ greatly influences our ability to master
anger in our lives. God’s love can change us even in the midst of
global calamity.
Yes, It has been a tough year already. God uses tough times like
these to form your character. As anger explodes around you, see it as
an opportunity to let God’s peace shine through you.

Encouragement for Today
Psalm 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will
fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort
me.” Having faith in the darkest valley—during a global pandemic, for
example—is bold. It’s natural to feel fearful right now, but believers
can have a bold faith and hope during a crisis because of who our
God is.
He is never changing even when our world does. (Malachi 3:6)
He is all-powerful, strong and able to do anything He wills. (Psalm
147:5;Romans 1:20)
He is faithful and always will be. (2 Timothy 2:13)
And He is so much MORE. He is beyond what we can conceive in our
limited human minds. His purposes and promises are sure, even
when we don’t understand them. Even when we aren’t sure where He
is or what He’s doing As Charles Sprugeon said: “God is too good to
be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot
trace His hand, we must trust His heart.”
Again, trusting God and having faith during a pandemic is a bold
stance. But do you know what else is bold? Coming before the
Almighty God of the universe in prayer. Hebrews 4:16 instructs us:
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may
obtain mercy and find grace in the time of need.”
Come boldly to the God who is unchanging, always faithful, and never
caught by surprise. Keep your faith in Him and let the knowledge of
who He is calm your fears. In Christ, Andrew Cave
On May 16th my loving wife Donna
passed away. I lost the love of my
life. My best friend. The mother to
our two boys and the best grandmother to our grandchildren
Kailly, Jackson, Mark and Matthew. The Lord blessed her with
a unique teaching ability. She loved her students as if they
were her own daughters and sons. The last 3 1/2 years were
tough on her. When members of Faith came to visit, she was
always positive and greeted everyone with a smile. I want to
personally thank all of you for the food you shared with Donna
and me. Your kind thoughts and prayers were always
appreciated. There are three things you can always count on
during times like this: Our Heavenly Father; Our devoted
family and Our Loving Friends like all of you, my Faith angels!
With love and blessings, Melvin Boelter and Family

From Your Mission Outreach and Evangelism Team
There is no doubt that Covid-19 has changed our lives and our ministry in just 5 short months, but God is always in control, and we see God taking advantage of this time of uncertainty for His glory. God’s plan has always been for every “nation and tribe and people and language” (Rev. 7:9) to know and worship Him.
Paul wrote in Romans 10:14-15 “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, ‘How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!’ ”
Covid-19 has forced overseas missionaries to develop new strategies to reach the lost. E3 Partners in Plano has developed a strategy using Zoom to coordinate outreach training from home, in partnership with overseas nationals who were previously trained by American short term missionary teams over the past several years.
With travel to Uganda not allowed this summer, our congregation has the opportunity to partner virtually with a team of Ugandan Christians to accomplish training and outreach in their country. They have a passion to share Christ with their neighbors and have a vision that by 2025 there will be no place left in Uganda that has not heard the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Our first team opportunity is August 20-23, 2020 in the Kampala area of Central Uganda. The second opportunity is November 5-8, 2020 in the Adjumani Refugee Camp for South Sudanese in Northern Uganda.
The American team will experience the same training that the Ugandan partners will be training in their outreach. During the training, the American team will be able to celebrate with the Ugandan team as they share pictures and video of their week of outreach and training with us.
Please read the LCMC Mission Moment in this newsletter and consider being a part of this global outreach.

Virtually Go Where You Cannot Go
Covid-19 has taken so much from us. So many of our normal routines have been disrupted and cultural norms have been turned upside down. Businesses, churches, schools, civic leaders and servants, healthcare providers and almost every family and household have all had to learn how to adapt. Global mission activity has also been deeply impacted.
Short-term mission trips have been a powerful tool to not only do great, kingdom-building ministry around the world, but also to meaningfully engage everyday followers of Jesus in the mission of Jesus while opening their eyes to mission opportunities around them in their own communities. But how can these Jesus’ followers go in a Covid-19 era of travel bans? Recently, a member of one of our churches shared a solution for the countless now cancelled short-term mission trips that had been planned.
Linda Dietz from Faith, Seguin, introduced me to the concept of a “Virtual Mission Trip,” an idea pioneered by E3 Partners. Since mission teams from American churches are unable to travel as planned to other nations, E3 developed a plan for enabling teams to receive training in mission activity at home while supporting a mission team from a local congregation in another country around the world. Both teams are trained and support and pray for one another as each engages in sharing the Gospel in each their own neighborhoods. Any individual or church group can sign-up to join one of these virtual mission trips and join in God’s activity from, well, virtually anywhere!
While this notion of a virtual mission trip is not an exact replacement for the real thing, I do believe it is a fantastic idea that still accomplishes the purpose of short-term missions. John Williams of E3 Partners in San Antonio is coordinating two upcoming virtual mission trips to Uganda that you are invited to join. For just $200, you can be a part of supporting the Gospel being shared in Uganda and receive invaluable training in how you can share the Gospel in your own community every day.
To learn more about how you or a team from your church can get involved in either of these Uganda trips or another trip, please go to our website: www.lcmctexas.org/virtual-mission-trips.

Baby Bottle Campaign for STPCC The Social Concerns Team is sponsoring the Baby Bottle Campaign Drive for
the South Texas Pregnancy Care Center. The primary mission of the center is
to promote life for the unborn child and to offer support for the mother and
child during pregnancy, birth, and the baby’s early years. The fundraiser will
begin on Sunday, July 19, and conclude on Sunday, August 9. Baby bottles will be available in
the narthex for Faith members to pick up and take home. If you are unable to pick one up and
would like a bottle delivered to you, please leave your name with the church and a team
member will deliver one to you. Or you may make a check out to STPCC and mail it to the
church. We will include it in our campaign contribution. We thank all of you who give a
monthly gift to support the pregnancy center. We encourage you to join other churches in the
Seguin area by placing change, dollar bills, and/or checks (made out to STPCC) in the baby
bottles to help support the services that the center provides. Services include pregnancy
tests, sonograms, counseling, educational materials, prayers, newborn gift baskets, and
slightly used baby items at no charge to clients. One hundred percent of the funds raised go
directly to support the center’s budget. The South Texas Pregnancy Care Center exists to offer
hope to people who mistakenly believe abortion is their only option. Please return the bottles
to the church no later than Sunday, August 9, and place them in the baskets in the narthex.
Dear LCMC Pastors and Congregations, On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce that we have finished the search process
and have asked Mike Bradley to serve as the next Service Coordinator for LCMC. We are grateful for all
the candidates who worked with us through this process and for those who have been praying for the
Board during this search process. We feel confident that God led us through this process and are so
excited to work with Mike as he begins in this role on August 1, 2020.
We hope to have many opportunities for the association to get to know Mike Bradley, but wanted to
share some of his bio here: Mike brings 40 plus years of leadership and ministry experience, having
served in Lutheran congregations in Nebraska (Christ Lutheran Church) and South Dakota (Trinity
Lutheran Church) as a youth pastor, worship leader, associate pastor, and senior pastor. He also served
as President for The Master’s Institute Seminary for ten years and most recently, as Director for the
Alliance of Renewal Churches (ARC). Mike is passionate about helping leaders and congregations create
an atmosphere that is a safe place for developing healthy leaders and disciples in the church, and
equipping God’s people for lives of effective witness and ministry in the world. He is the author of the
book, “Being a Safe Place for the Dangerous Kind”, in which he articulates the essential connection
between solid theology and healthy practice in mission and ministry. Mike
enjoys sports of all kinds, having served as a high school basketball and
baseball coach while serving Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City, South
Dakota. He and his wife of forty-two years, Debi, enjoy reading, hiking,
and swimming, and Mike enjoys the occasional golf outing. They have five
adult children – Andrew Michael, Joseph Ross, Rachel Christine, Stephen
Daniel and Benjamin John, and three grandsons – Michael, Isaac, and
Lucas. Mike and Debi live in Gilbert, Arizona with their three-year old
white Labrador, Maggie Mae. Again, we are so excited to have Mike begin
his ministry with LCMC. Please be in prayer for the association, our staff,
and the Board as we begin this next chapter, together.
God’s peace to you, Brodie Taphorn LCMC Board of Trustees, Chair
