Performers should present themselves at the Festival venue not less than 15 minutes before the time indicated in the Festival Programme, except at the beginning of each session when they should be present not less than 10 minutes before commencement. Please note that times given are only approximations.

FESTIVALADJUDICATORS
StewartFyffeDRSAMLTCLStewart trained in Singing and Voice Production at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) where he also studied Piano and Trombone. Following many years teaching for the local authority during which time he had extensive experience of solo, choral and orchestral work, both performing and conducting, he now has an extensive private teaching practice. Stewart is currently the conductor of a local community choir of around 70 singers, the organist/choir leader of his local Parish Church and works as a tutor with the Dundee branch of the National Youth Choir of Scotland where he specialises in working with boys’ voices. Having a strong interest in Scottish traditional music - for a number of years he was a member of the local Gaelic Choir - in addition to his work with the Festival Federation, Stewart is regularly invited to adjudicate vocal, choral and instrumental classes at Gaelic Mods.
JohnFosterJohn studied piano with Kendall Taylor and Dennis Matthews (masterclasses). He has worked extensively as accompanist for singers and instrumentalists and in chamber groups, including the Lydian Trio. He has performed in UK, Jersey, France, Germany and Hong Kong, (including radio broadcasts). John taught for 16 years at RNCM Junior College and is a former Director of St Cecilia Chamber Music Trust. Currently, he performs, teaches/coaches pianists and singers, is an adjudicator for The British and International Federation of Festivals and is an ABRSM grade and diploma examiner, trainer and moderator, nationally and internationally

WalterCowanWalter Cowan, a native of Annan, was first taught the bagpipes by his father Jack Cowan on his demob from the Army in 1946. He also received tuition from his uncle, George Grant, a former Pipe Major in the Scots Guards, and Piobaireachd instruction from Willie Bryson in Edinburgh. Walter was a member of the Annan Ex Service Club Pipe Band from 1947 until his retiral in 1997, having been Pipe Major from 1964 until 1997. During this time he took the band from Grade 4 to Grade 1, winning the Grade

2 World Championships in 1986 and Champion of Champions the same year. Walter has also had a fairly successful solo piping career featuring in the prize list at all the major competitions, the highlight of which was winning the silver medal and silver star at the Argyllshire Gathering in 1982 and gaining Premier Grade status the same year. On retiral from competing, Walter is now involved as a senior adjudicator with the Joint Committee of Judges, the approved judging organisation. As a judge Walter has had the privilege of adjudicating at all of the major competitions in the country, including the Argyllshire Gathering, the Northern Meeting, the Cowal Gathering, the Glenfiddich at Blair Castle and the London Piping Society. Walter has also previously adjudicated at the Galloway Music Festival and is always delighted to be asked to adjudicate at this local event.
