Growth Strategy Mapping?

What do we mean by Growth Strategy Mapping?

• Reinforcing places that contribute to the village’s character

(Preservation)

• Highlighting places that may need some change (Retrofit)

• Targeting those places that are appropriate for growth (Growth)

For the purposes of this exercise we will be using Scale and Intensity as the

ScaleA description of the size and / or massing of a building. Examples of ways to quantify a building‘s scale are building height and square footage.

IntensityA description of the concentration and levels of uses and activity at a site or area.Factors that contribute to defining a location’s intensity are the number of people who live or visit the site on a daily basis or amount of vehicular or pedestrian activity associated with the site.

Areas of Retrofit

Moderate change in intensity may be needed but not necessarily a change in

l

Areas of Retrofit

Areas of Growth

Highest levels of scale and intensity for the village (existing and future)

Areas of Growth

• Begin to evaluate current land use mix

• Align growth with planned and existing infrastructure

• Reinforce existing growth areas and potentially identify

new ones

Why again?

• Preservation, Growth, Retrofit = General categorizations

• Not parcel specific

• Not a new GP Land Use Category

• Tools for this exercise

• Don’t sweat the small the stuff
