The Most Common Misconceptions About:

Green Building

When talking about modern construction, it’s impossible to not hear the buzzwords: “green” & “eco-friendly”

!

This concept is still relatively new, so there are many misconceptions that the green building movement faces:

Myth #1:

Green Construction is a Fad

A lot of old school thinkers are of the mindset that the green construction movement is fleeting, and only certain parts of the industry care. !But, the movement continues to build momentum !LEED Certifications set up an easy to follow framework for green projects

Green Building is More ExpensiveMany contractors are under the impression that eco constructions costs more !From a longevity standpoint though, sustainable construction and “green”building materials provide savings that completely outweigh the heavier initial cost.

Myth #2:

Green Building is More Expensive (cont)

Example Green Remodel Scenario: !Redesigning a roof to capture more natural lighting would have an initial cost of a few thousand dollars. !However, the initial cost “set-back” would pay itself off, as the influx of natural light would reduce the need for artificial (costly) lighting. !

Myth #2:

Myth #3:

“Green” = “Solar”

When the topic of “eco construction” comes up, the immediate thought is “solar power”. !But green construction is so much more than a few solar panels. !A truly conservative, efficient design can be created without a single solar panel.
