Q3 2011 highlightsIn the third quarter of the year 2011 (July thru September) printer sales at Océ improved slightly over the previous year due to a comprehensive product range and a recovering supply chain. Despite increased printer sales, Océ needs to significantly improve its bottom line. Therefore Océ will continue to carry out measures to mitigate the ongoing challenging conditions. These include a continuous ramping up of the production of new machines, intensifying marketing and sales efforts and ongoing stringent cost control. Reviewing the third quarter, printer sales improved. Production of continuous feed printers such as the Océ ColorStream 3500 system was ramped up and sales developed favorably. After having completed the learning phase in the first half of 2011, the sales force increasingly sold Canon printing systems connected to Océ software solutions. Overall construction and engineering markets remained weak in the USA and Europe, impacting wide format printer sales.
Update cooperation with CanonIn the third quarter, revenues from the sale of Canon products by Océ continued to grow, in line with the trend set in the previous quarter. The Océ sales staff is now fully up to speed in selling Canon printers. The number of orders for Océ systems signed by Canon sales staff grew gradually compared to the second quarter. Canon and Océ won a very sizable deal in the US with FedEx Office, partly consisting of cutsheet production printers from the Océ VarioPrint 6000 series which will be delivered by Océ in the third and fourth quarter. Commenting on the combination, industry analysts* stated that “Canon and Océ are able to compete for deals they were not able to go after independently.”Following the successful launch of the imagePRESS
C7010VPS in March, Canon and Océ launched two new productive printers in the quarter. The Océ VarioPrint DP Line runs at four print speeds (print speeds up from 90 to 135 ppm) and combines Océ DirectPress technology and Canon scanner and finishing functions. The imageRUNNER ADVANCE C9000S PRO series contains Canon hardware connected to the workflow management of the Océ PRISMAsync controller. Industry analysts* commented on the launches that “the speed of the integration of the two companies is impressive”.

Océ and Canon help customers reduce environmental impact with new technology and print systemsThe newly launched Océ VarioPrint DP Line is based on breakthrough and highly sustainable technologies that help customers reduce their environmental impact.
Océ DirectPress technology does not use light, high temperatures or electrical charges to create an image, making it a reliable alternative to traditional technologies for the black and white market. Océ DirectPress technology produces no ozone emissions making for a cleaner working environment for system users.
Océ HeatXchange implemented in the Océ VarioPrint DP Line saves energy by transferring the heat used to fuse toner onto paper from printed sheets to new sheets entering the print path. By recycling the heat in this way, customers can reduce their energy consumption by at least 30% compared to other systems in its class. The Océ VarioPrint DP Line has the lowest TEC (Typical Energy Consumption) value in the mid production market and can be plugged into a standard power outlet.
Océ EnergyLogic reduces energy consumption but keeps productivity high. This technology matches the power requirements of a print job with that available in the system. It ensures that the system starts printing quickly after a cold start or maintains maximum speed after changing to heavier media.
Océ on Global Sustainability TVOcé will be profiled on Global Sustainability TV, a cutting-edge television series that features ecology and energy-conscious companies and organizations. Topics addressed include Océ’s sustainability programs, initiatives and business. The program will be aired in the United States on 3 November 2011.
