“GLOBAL WARMING”

GLOBAL

WARMING

Some Inconvenient Truths…

Mumbai’s Nariman Point will be submerged by Year 2020

40% of Himalayan glaciers would vanish by Year 2035

50 million people in coastal belt will be displaced by year 2100

What is Global warming ?

Global warming -- a gradual increase in planet-wide temperaturesEarth has been hottest in at least 400 years, and possibly even the last 2,000 years. Studies indicate that the average global surface temperature has increased by approximately 0.5-1.0°F (0.3-0.6°C) over the last century. This warming is largely attributed to the

increase of greenhouse gases in the Earth's upper atmosphere

GREEN HOUSE GASSES

The gas traps heat more effectively than all other gasses are known as Green house gasses, occur naturally in the environment and also result from human activities. These gasses are

Water vapor

Carbon dioxide

Methane

Nitrous oxide

IMPACT OF GLOBAL WARMING

• As per scientists’ prediction the warmed world will be more humid & hot which will result in more water evaporation from earth

• Humid weather will enhance rainfall but with change pattern & high intensity

• Storm will be more strong & frequent

• Weather pattern are suspected to be less predictable and more extreme

GLOBAL

WARMING

• Sea level world wide rose 10-20 cm in 20th century

• In 21st century IPCC predicts a rise of 9 to 88 cm .

• It will submerge 6% of Netherlands, 17.5% of Bangladesh and many Island will disappear.

SEA LEVEL

GLOBAL

WARMING

AGRICULTURE •Increase in temperature may cause a pole-ward Shift of agricultural zones and shift in growing seasons.•Equatorial zones, where agriculture is generally unproductive now, will deteriorate further.

GLOBAL

WARMING

• Animals and plants will find it difficult to escape from or adjust to effect of global warming

ANIMAL

•Approximately 20-30% of plant and animal Species assessed so far are likely to be at greater risk of extinction if increases in global Average temperature exceed 1.5 to 2.5 Celsius.

GLOBAL

WARMING

COASTAL CATASTROPHE :-SEA LEVEL WILL RISE 40 CM HIGHER BY 2100 AND 50 MILLION PEOPLE IN COASTAL INDIA WOULD BE DISPLACED BY FLOODING

GLOBAL

WARMING

THE HIMALAYAN GLACIERS MAY TOTALLY DISAPPEAR CAUSING CATASTROPHIC DISRUPTION

GLOBAL

WARMING

IF CURRENT WARMING RATE PERSIST, GLACIERS ON THE TIBET PLATEAU WILL SHRINK RAPIDLY FROM 5 LAKH SQ KM TO 1 LAKH SQ KM BY 2030G

LOBAL

WARMING

25% AMOUNT OF FLORA & FAUNA IN INDIA WOULD EXTINCT BY THE YEAR OF 2030.

Remedy

What can WE doas an individual?

GLOBAL

WARMING

• whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans.

• By recycling half of your household waste, you

can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

GLOBAL

WARMING

Reuse & Recycle

Plant a Tree

GLOBAL

WARMING

If you have the means to plant a tree, start digging.. They are there to fully counter the increases in carbon dioxide caused by automobile traffic, manufacturing and other human activities. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.

Use the "Off" Switch

Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need
