Google My BusinessOptimisation Checklist

Local Listings / Citations

Google My BusinessSTEP #1: Local Listings

Getting listings on the major local business directories so that Google can reference those listings and then rank your ‘Maps’ listing accordingly. This is a part of the PROMINENCE component to Google’s local or ‘Maps’ algorithm.

HOT TIP: The more local listings you get, the better.

Reviews On Your Listings

Google My BusinessSTEP #2: Business

Reviews

Getting your customers to review your business on these sites helps with the PROMINENCE side of things also. Send a friendly email with a link to each directory asking your customers to leave a review. Always have new customers do the same (if you think they’re happy with your services of course!)

HOT TIP: Once again, the more positive reviews you get, the better – Not only for Google but for your online reputation also.

Setup Or Login To An Account

Google My BusinessSTEP #3: Google Account

If you’ve already got an active account or listing, login to your account and then visit the link below to manage your listing. If you haven’t got an account, visit the link below also and follow the prompts to register.

HOT TIP: If you already have an account and listing, do not create a new account or listing. Try to find your original login details.

To register or setup a listing:http://www.google.com.au/business/

For more information and Google My Business resources:https://support.google.com/business/

Creating Or Editing Your Listing

Google My BusinessSTEP #4: Listing Setup

Ensuring your business meets 100% of the information criteria is CRITICAL to getting a good ranking and to ensure your business is RELEVANT. Be sure to enter:

EXACT business name (no SPAM ) Exact business address Phone number Business hours Full business description Business category (fill in all 5 if you can). Don’t forget a profile photo Upload as many business images as possible

HOT TIP: If you don’t like to write, get a friend or family member to write a description for you. If you don’t have images, get someone to take some. The more complete your listing is, the better chance your listing is of ranking well in Google Maps.

Verifying Your Business Listing

Google My BusinessSTEP #5: Verification

HOT TIP: If you don’t verify your listing, it may show on Google however, it is highly likely that it won’t show up or rank well if your niche is highly competitive.

To verify that you are who you say you are and located where you say you’re located, Google will send you a postcard to verify your address. You’ll need to enter a PIN code on that postcard via Google to have your business verified and activated.
