Blood Type DietBy: Gurion Marks, Amanda Rodriguez, Emma Russell-

Grad, Galen Xing, Minjee Lee

● There are four different blood types: A, B, AB, and O

● Each blood type requires a different diet.

● Blood type diet warns against eating overly fatty foods and includes daily exercise in which some people have found positive results.

Basic Principles of the Blood Type Diet

The "Science" Behind It

● Proteins called Lectins are in certain foods, which react with different blood types to do things such as changing the acidity of blood and causing disease.

● It is a possibility that the different blood types indicate which prehistoric group you descended from○ this explains the tolerance your

body has with certain foods. (Type O is the oldest and from groups that had a meat based diet.)

What You CAN and CANNOT Eat.Type A ● People with a type A blood type

should eat a vegetarian diet

● This consists of vegetables, tofu, grain, beans, and fruit

● Foods that may help with weight loss

would be vegetable oil, vegetables, soy foods, and pineapples.

● Foods that should be avoided are things like meat, dairy, kidney and lima beans, and wheat.

What You CAN and CANNOT Eat.Type B ● People with a type B blood type should eat a balanced

omnivorous diet.

● This includes dairy, grains, beans, vegetables, fruit, and meat (chicken not included).

● Food that will help weight loss include greens, tea, licorice, eggs, liver and venison.

● Foods that should be avoided are corn, lentil, peanuts, sesame, wheat, and buckwheat.

What You CAN and CANNOT Eat.Type AB

● Type AB blood should have a mixed diet. This includes meat, seafood, dairy, grains, fruits, and vegetables.

● Food that may help weight loss are tofu, kelp, greens, and pineapple.

● Food that should be avoided are red meat, kidney and lima beans, seeds, corn, and buckwheat.

What You CAN and CANNOT Eat.Type O

● Type O blood type should eat a high protein diet. This includes meat, fish, fruits and vegetables.

● They are limited to grains, beans and legumes.

● Food that may help with weight loss are kelp, salt, liver, spinach, broccoli, etc.

● Food that should be avoided are wheat, corn, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower.

Health Impacts of Diets

● If people attempt to adjust to these new food diets then that can lead to diminished blood flow and imbalanced nutrients. ○ That will then lead to damaged tissues

which are scattered around the body, including muscles and organs.■ In extreme cases, this can lead to

organ failure; potentially fatal

● Certain allergies may be activated by foods in the diet

Criticism of the Diet● Most health and nutritional professionals agree that the Blood

Type Diet is unsupported by scientific evidence

● The diet rests on the theory that each type of antigen marker on red blood cells reacts badly to certain types of nutrients, which there is no evidence for.

● There is no scientific evidence for the claim that different populations of humans process nutrients significantly differently from one another.

● Different ethnicities use nutrients slightly differently, so there is not a true correlation
