Cuzco became the Inca’s center of trade, government and religion. Pachakuti was an Incan ruler expanded he empire. He was also called the Sapa Inca. He spread religion throughout the empire. Inti was their sun god. The Incas saw this god as their parent and often called themselves “Children of the Sun”. All people paid taxes and they all had to do some job for the government. No written language but developed a method of recording important matters. The huge network of roads was most important in keeping the empire together. Runners (Chasques) were used to pass important messages. Stonework was a major achievement, many structures still stand. Llamas were the most important animal to the Incas providing wool, meat, fertilizer, transporting goods, and sometimes offered as sacrifices to the gods. Historians believe the town of Machu Picchu was used as a special religious center. Like the Mayans & Aztecs, many important treasures were lost to the Spanish conquistadors.
