HewLocke, theLondon-basedartist,wasborn inEdinburghbutgrewup inGeorgetown,Guyana, theeldestchildofGuyanese artists, Leila and Donald Locke. He returned to the UK aged 20 to study, eventually gaining an M.A. insculpturefromtheRoyalCollegeofArt. Hisworkisshowninternationally includingChina, India,Germany,theUSA,AustraliaandHongKong.HisworksareinthecollectionsofTheTateGalleryandTheBritishMuseum(UK),andTheMetropolitanMuseumofArt(USA),amongstothers.Thiscomingyear,he’llhavesoloshowsatthePPOWgallery,NewYorkandtheIKON,Birmingham.LockewillfocusontheinfluenceofGuyana’sindependencein1966onhiswork.HannahKendall,borninLondonin1984,isofGuyaneseheritage.ShegraduatedfromtheUniversityofExeterwithFirstClasshonours inMusicandalsocompletedaMasters inAdvancedCompositionwithDistinctionfromtheRoyalCollegeofMusic.ShehasattractedtheattentionofsomeoftheUK’sfinestgroupsincludingtheLondonPhilharmonicOrchestra. InOctober2016shepremieredaone-manchamberopera, ‘TheKnifeofDawn’atLondon’sRoundhouse.BasedontheGuyanesepoliticalactivistandpoetMartinCarter,theoperawassettoanewlibrettobyaward-winningauthor,TessaMcWatt.Describedasbeing‘dramaticallyintenseandatmospheric’,itofferedapowerfulsnapshotofthepoet’sincarcerationinBritishGuiana.Kendall’stalkwillfocusontheproductionofthisground-breakingwork.D. K. Storm Westmaas is an alumnus of Guyana’s Queen’s College, latterly Langley Park School for Boys, and theUniversityofWarwick,wherehereadPhilosophyandPolitics.HewentontostudyLawatCity,UniversityofLondon,and thereafter became a Barrister-at-Law.Hewas called to the Bars of England, Guyana, Anguilla, and St. Kitts andNevis. Westmaas specialises in a civil litigation of complex commercialmatterswith public law experience in theregulationofpoliticiansandgovernmental institutionsaswellascomplex fraudandbriberycriminalproceedings intheUKandtheCaribbeanwherehewasattorneyforoil,hotelandinsurancecompanies.Histalkwillfocusonthepre-independenceactivismofhisfather,RoryWestmaas.
