Happy Holidays,
I thank everyone who was able to attend their child’s parent teacher conference and encourage anyone
who was unable to make it to contact your child’s teacher for an update on their academic progress. Our
commitment to building strong relationships between school and home will have a positive impact on your
child’s success at school. It is hard to believe that we have transitioned into another month and are getting
ready to close the books on the 2018 calendar year. Let’s finish the year strong and work together to keep
the kids engaged until we leave for the break!
There have been several PTO community activities since the beginning of the school year and it has been
great to see all those who have attended. A huge thank you to the team of parents who work to make these
events happen. If you have not had an opportunity to attend an event with your child I encourage you to
set aside the time and come out and enjoy the evening.
It seems as though winter has come a bit early this year requiring the students to wear their warm coats,
gloves and hats. I want to remind everyone that we do still go outside for a 20 minute lunch recess if the
temperature is above 17 degrees with the wind chill factored in. The fresh air and active play is good for the
kids, please make sure they leave the house dressed for the weather.
I challenge all parents to engage in a 20 minute literacy activity with your child nightly to promote good
study habits. This time with your child establishes an ongoing means of communicating with them about
what they are currently engaged in at school. Until next month….WE ARE HARWOOD…WHERE IT IS GREAT
TO BE A HAWK!
~Mrs. Tremmel
Cooler Weather is on the Way
With cold weather upon us, students should dress warmly wearing gloves, hats, mittens,
boots, etc. Girls should have leg coverings.
Children will be going outside at recess most days. This is especially true at lunch
time. The decision for going outside is made after 11:00 a.m. each day. District Policy is
that students will have outdoor recess if the temperature and or wind chill is 15 degrees
or higher. Children cannot be excused from recess without a written note signed by your
doctor.

News From Mrs. Rospino in the Media Center
The November Scholastic Book Fair was a great success! Thank you for purchasing from our book fair which in turn helps support our Media Center. I’d like to give a special “THANK YOU!” to the following parents and high school students who contributed their time and effort to help run the fair. Without their dedication, the fair could not have been as successful!
