ADAPTABILITY
• (noun) [uh-dap-tuh-bil-i-tee]• “Ability to change in order to fit/work better in a situation or
for a purpose.”
GOALS FOR TODAY
• Improve ability to adapt to different audiences.
• Improve ability to adapt on the fly.
• Gain a better understanding of adaptability as a way of life.
ADAPTING TO DIFFERENT AUDIENCES
• As Honors Devils (and in daily life), we encounter individuals who are vastly different from one another.
• Interacting with everyone in the exact same way will lead to problems.
• We must be receptive to and communicate with various audiences.
ADAPTING TO DIFFERENT AUDIENCES
• In our roles as Honors Devils, we may interact with:• Accepted students• Students who haven’t applied yet• Interested/disinterested students• Talkative/quiet students• Really informed/uninformed students• Helicopter parents• Some of the wackiest people
ACTIVITY #1
•All students will take turns tabling as an Honors Devil.
• While tabling, you will be interacting with one other member at a time, each of which takes on an assigned persona and asks you a question.
• Each Honors Devil will have 3 minutes to speak with all members of class.• Each student should take only about 20 seconds
• Most people are not ready to take action to change immediately.
• Committing to changing is a cyclical/long process.
• The model has proven to be extremely beneficial for many.
STEPS OF BEHAVIOR CHANGE MODEL
ACTIVITY #2
• Each student will fill out a Behavior Change Contract.
• Choose a behavior that you would like to change for the better. • Health/fitness habits, study habits, personal habits, anything• Think of it as a “SMART” goal.
