WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

ACUTE RESPIRATORY INFECTION

Acute respiratory infection is

a set of infectious disease

that affects the upper or lower

respiratory system (nose, ear,

larynx, pharynx, bronchi or

lungs).

It usually starts as a cold with

throat discomfort, sometimes

ear pain, runny nose, cough

and fever often. These

infections are transmitted

from person to person.

MANIFESTATIONS:

Signs indicative of mild respiratory

infection (not pneumonia) in a child are:

Cough, runny and

stuffy nose.

The child is

breathing without

difficulty.

You have a fever but

this is low.

The child receives

food and fluids.

IN CASES OF PNEUMONIA:

The child is breathing very fast and

with difficulty, to observe his chest

and neck to proudly that the spaces

between the ribs and neck at the

base of the sink with each breath

(runs).

IN CASES OF PNEUMONIA:

You may have a cough, high fever,

loss of appetite.

The child does not receive fluids as

has difficulty ingesting, can be very

weak, sleepy or irritable.

The child may have difficulty eating.

RISK FACTORS:

The factors that facilitate acute

respiratory infections arise or

become serious are:

The lack of vaccination.

The absence of breastfeeding

prevents defenses from the

mother to pass his son and

protect them from diseases.

Malnutrition and low body

defenses.

Continuous exposure to smoke

(wood, cigarette) to irritation in

the airways and prevents

defend against infection.

Air pollution and the

environment.

Fact

ors?

Take your child to be

vaccinated promptly (hopefully

before the first year of life).

How

to

prev

ent

it?

Give only breast milk for food

up to four months and combine

it with other foods until year

old.

Keep your child well nourished

with a well-balanced diet.

Keep your child breathe

cigarette smoke or fires.

Take your child to control

growth and development.

How

to

prev

ent

it?

The most important thing parents

should know is to distinguish

when mild respiratory infection

pneumonia has become because

at this time the child's life

depends on how quickly it is

taken to the doctor.

In a mild case (not

pneumonia), measures at

home most recommended are:

Keep your nose clear by wiping

with clean cloth. Never dip the

child in the nose oil, menthol or

vick vaporub.

Take your child's temperature.

For fever give your child

acetaminophen, and keep your

child in cool clothes in a well

ventilated room.

Never rub the boy with alcohol

to reduce fever (is dangerous

because of the risk of

poisoning).

Do not give antibiotics or drugs

without medical guidance.

Wha

t to

do

Continue the current feeding

(including breastfeeding).

you normally give your child.
