Time Before

Hearing vs. Listening

• Hearing and listening are two different words.

• You may hear the words, but they do not settle in your mind, i.e. listening.

The Bible and Hearing

• Seven times the churches of Revelation are encouraged to hear.

• “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

• Matthew 11.15• Matthew 13.9• Matthew 13.43

The Bible and Hearing

The Words of James:

– “…quick to hear, slow to speak…”

– “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

Remember your hearing/listening must be active with your actions.

Time Before

“Listen to Him”

Matthew 17.1-8

– “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

Hebrews 1.1-2

– “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…”

Wise Man vs Foolish Man

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

(Matthew 7.24)

A wise man does the words of A wise man does the words of Christ.Christ.

Becoming a Wise Listener

• Hunger for the truth (Matthew 5.6)

• Realize the value of hearing.

– “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

(Romans 10:17)

Becoming a Wise Listener

• Prepare to listen. (Nehemiah 8.1-8)

• Take notes and review to improve listening. (Acts 17.11)

• Listen and examine all points. (Nehemiah 8.1-8)

• Accept the truth. (Acts 2.37-41)

• Listen and act! (James 1.22)
