We previously tried to develop custom mobile applications in house, however this work required detailed configuration

of everything from mobile devices, user interfaces, databases, web hooks, and other services. Fulcrum has

allowed us to cut out worrying about managing the "middleware".

“Lessons learned

The API allows for implementing more complex workflows, but sometimes simpler, well documented applications are

much easier to manage than interfaces that "try to do it all". Identifying and communicating with power users is particularly useful for deciding on optimal workflows.

Field research in support of a lawsuit over the Future of Forever Wild Lands in the Adirondack Park, NY. Fulcrum was used to document the number and location of trees and cut stumps along proposed snowmobile trails in the

Adirondack Park.

“Project Overview

Clean Air Council used Fulcrum to create maps to visualize bike parking demand in Philadelphia. Using Fulcrum to

collect bike parking data, we were able to create a report outlining gaps in bicycle parking infrastructure as well as placement recommendations for locations of bike racks. This data will help guide the City and private businesses

recommending what bike parking capacity is needed. 19

Our team created a standardized approach for evaluating infrastructure for “slow modes” that collects data on sidewalks and street edges, as part of the "The Slow

Speed Network Strategy for the South Bay" project for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation

... the inventory, movement and administration of controlled substances were documented and authorized with carbon­ copy paper forms. Records were physically stored (filed away) and retrieved again when needed. To

generate statistics and reports, the data had to be collected, reviewed, and then compiled into a more usable

format.43

Fulcrum allowed the research team to precisely locate the addresses of a random sample of licensed tobacco

retailers in NYC. The record assignment tool made dividing the data collection workload simple and efficient. Using the

app's photo upload feature, the researchers photo-documented storefronts that are saturated with

advertisements for cigarettes, cigars, and other products.46
