Kid’s time - In your own kornerHello everyone – It is kid’s time with Auntie Lyka “In Your Korner”. This week we will take a look at flood once again. I en-couarge you to share this infomation with all of your friends and families. Remember to read a book as you go along.

• Ifyouhavetime,bringinoutdoororgardenfurniture.Youshouldalsomoveimportantthingstoasecondstory.

• Stayawayfromfloodwater.Itmaybecontaminated(containdangeroussubstances).

• Donotwalkthroughmovingwater.Itcanknockyouoffyourfeet.Ifyoumustwalkthroughwater,walkwherethewaterisnotmoving.Useasticktotestthegroundinfrontofyou.

• Stayawayfrompowerlinesthatareontheground.Youcouldbeelectrocuted.

• Alwayskeepyourbattery-poweredradiowithyousoyouknowwhatishappening.

• Ifyouarescared,shareyourfearswithanadult.Floodscanbescary,butremember--thewaterALWAYSgoesaway!

Itwasaveryhotday.Thesunshonedownstrongly.Ben,JeffandLindashelteredunderashadytree.“Sittingunderatreelikethisprotectsusfromtheheatofthesun,”saidBen.

Beforethemlaythewidesea.Bytheseaside,therewerepeoplehavingpicnics.Somepeoplewerebathinginthesea.Somewerechasingeachotheronthebeach.Ben,JeffandLindaplayedbytheseasidetoo.

Theweatherisnotalwayssofine.Sometimes,theskyiscloudy.Thatafternoon,assoonasthethreefriendsreachedhometheskysuddenlybecameovercast.Ben,JeffandLindadidnotgooutdoors.Theywereafraidthatitwouldrain.

Thatafternoon,astormstruckavillage.Itwasreportedthatmanyhousesweredestroyed.Treeswereuprooted.The

inhabitantsranoutoftheirhouses.Theyfoundshelterinasafeplace.

Linda’sfatherworksintown.LindatelephonedBen.Shetoldhimthatitwasrainingveryheavilyintown.Lightningflashedrepeatedly.Linda’sfatherwas

trappedbytherain.Trafficcouldnotmovesmoothlybecauseofthestorm.

Theheavyrainresultedinfloodsattheedgesofthetown.Manyinhabitantshadtoleavetheirhomes.Rescueboatswereused.Theboatsferriedthefloodvictimstoasafeplace.

Thefloodvictimswerehousedatafewfloodcentres.Ben,JeffandLindawenttohelp.Theypreparedfood.Helppouredinfrommanysources.Somegaveclothes,blanketsandfoodstuff.

Atlonglast,therainstopped.Thesunshoneagain.Thefloodwaterswentdown.Thefloodvictimswereabletoreturntotheirhomes,wheretheyhadtoworkhardtocleanupthemudandtherubbishthatthefloodhadbrought.

Remember it only takes a few minutes for rising water to become a flood. Are you Ready?
