A S I F A H M E D Asif Ahmed meticulously produces drawings and miniature paintings exploring the connection between traditional art values in the contemporary art world today. He careful overlaps and superimposes different images from different times, creating a unique dialogue of imagery and motifs borrowed from history. S O B I A A H M E D Sobia Ahmed explores the fine line between subject matter and content in her work. Her watercolours seem to grow out of deep metaphysical recesses and she relies on abstraction and form to compose a completely unique style of miniature. S A N A M A H M O O D Sana Mahmood’s miniatures rely mostly on linear structures placed in various configurations as well as small pristinely rendered floral motifs on dark or chequered backgrounds, reminiscent of those found in Mughal miniatures but used in a different context. Her finely painted symbols invoke ideas pertaining to the ‘unpredictability of life’, as well as the concept of the fragility of a life that does not have a strong foundation. R A M Z A N J A F R I Ramzan Jafri is deeply influenced by the pain and suffering that occurs from terrorist acts back in his motherland of Pakistan. He portrays this deep sense of injustice at the sectarian discrimination within his community through different techniques on his canvas. S H A H A B D U L L A H Syed Shah Abdullah Alamee describes his work as a ‘journey of self exploration’. He questions ‘the importance of man’s existence. If man’s existence is only confined to the body and decays with the body, then what is the purpose of life?’ He expresses the inner struggle and various visions of a body and he not only raises the questions, he also answers them. His art tells the purpose of existence – to create one’s identity, which remains in this world after death.
