2012-2013 Budget Cuts
High Skill
FY 2012 budget update: last month President Obama released the administration’s FY 2012 (2012–13) budget. It included significant cuts to Perkins. Like the FY 2011 proposal, the budget calls for merging Title I state basic grants with Tech Prep. The proposed appropriations for Title I is $1 billion dollars, a cut of 13 percent from current levels. The rationale for the cut is that CTE programs are•not providing sufficient data to prove their effectiveness,•inconsistent in quality,•preparing too few students for postsecondary programs, •and often not aligned with high-skill, high-demand occupations.
