Under the aegis of the Maternal and Neonatal Health platform, SNEHA (Society for Nutrition and Health Action) and Hill Spring International, Tardeo under its CAS (Community, Action and Service programme) collaborated on a unique event. Spread over three days (11th And 18th November, 2011 ) within the premises of the school in Tardeo, mother and child duos from class six and seven stitched together cloth squares to create a large quilt. This quilt subsequently was formally handed over to Dr. Wasundhara Joshi, Executive Director, and SNEHA in a ceremony. The quilt will be broken down and each square piece will be handed over to a public hospital to serve as a baby wrap. The idea was to instill a sense of community in the children and inculcate within them at an impressionable age the ability to look at life more holistically. The uniqueness of the exercise was in the tripartite cooperation and collaboration between a private school, a non profit and a public hospital. This was a symbolic expression, via the joining together of the pieces by a parent and child, of SNEHA’s work in Maternal and Neonatal work in the urban slums of Mumbai. The programme was received eagerly by the children and parents of the school and the Hill Spring School and SNEHA hope to collaborate again in the years to come and make this an annual event.
