Working with leaders from large healthcare enterprises, small physician offices and the military health system, plus consulting and vendor communities, the Ambulatory Information Systems Steering Committee expands HIMSS’ ability to increase the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care by removing barriers to IT adoption, and increasing the use of EHRs and Business Systems Integration in physician offices and outpatient care settings.

Purpose is to develop a fact Sheet/tool kit on open source technologies available and successfully used in the Ambulatory care setting by June 30, 2007.

3. Paperless Clinics, Chairperson, Karen Colafari, KJ Consulting, RN, MBA

Purpose is to develop a White Paper highlighting successful Business Cases where HIT has resulted in Ambulatory paperless clinics by June 30, 2007.

Practice Leadership Task Force

Chair - James Morrow, MDVP and CIO, North Fulton Family Medicine, P.C., GA

Purpose: Working towards developing relationships with state medical societies to educate them on who we are and what we do.

Increase ambulatory membership via outreach efforts.Develop relationships with state medical societies and provide education on HIMSS Ambulatory HIS efforts.Develop educational materials on EMR adoption and implemntation.

Education & Virtual Conference Task Force

Work with the HIMSS Education team to expandeducation offerings to the ambulatory communitythrough audio-conferences, webinars and ambulatoryfocused Education offerings at annual conference.

Supply Ambulatory focused content for 2007 Virtual Conferences.

Community Health Organization Task ForceChair - Lyman Dennis, CPHIMSS, FHIMSSCIO, Partnership Health Plan of California

Provide a forum for the providers of the nation's 30,000 Community Health Centers to meet, network, and develop an outreach effort that allows the providers to explore topics of common interest, learn from best practices and provide a collective voice advocating for information technologies for populations at risk.

The Community Health Organizations Task Force will be working on developing a survey/database of community health organizations efforts.

The newsletter is published on the second Wednesday of the month to keep you informed of the latest news on ambulatory care and the electronic medical record.

Develop tools and resources for HIMSS membership to facilitate understanding and implementation of wireless health information technology in healthcare facilities, mobile medicine and ambulatory care.
