Pontchartrain Park:
In 1951, Pontchartrain Park was designed for
African Americans as a 190-acre recreation area
with an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse, stadium,
ball fields, basketball and tennis courts,
playgrounds, picnic areas, and fishing lagoons-
and as a 175-acre residential subdivision of 1,000
single-family homes.
Since the first residents moved to Pontchartrain Park in 1955, it has been one of New
Orleans’ most desirable neighborhoods in which middle-class homeowners could live and
raise families
The Pontchartrain Park CDC was established in 2008 to protect and restore the historic
Pontchartrain Park neighborhood and is led by former resident and acclaimed actor
Wendell Pierce.

To demonstrate to the community the building methodology, efficiency gains and wide array
of products that could be utilized Mr. Pierce funded the building of the first home which also
serves as the model home discovery center.
The Pierce Model was constructed to meet the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Energy
Builders Challenge program, the Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star program,
The General Electric ecomagination program, and the United State Green building Council
LEED for Homes program

Our experience is typical builder grade insulation and air sealing simply will not produce a high performance house.

Back when I was first leaning the principles of building science the instructor asked – what does it take to heat an igloo?
One candle he said if you stop the air infiltration.

Hurricane Katrina was devastating and SGGI was honored to participate in the rebuilding .
Pontchartrain Park Community came together, individuals like Wendel Pierce and Lisa Jackson came to support their families and friends which without their support the community may not have recovered.
