HISTORY

KOPERASI OKU PULAU PINANG BERHAD (Formerly known as Koperasi Cerebral Palsy (Spastik) Pulau Pinang Berhad) was inaugurated on the 8th of April 2005 at the Cerebral Palsy Children’s Association of Penang, 425 Jalan Mesjid Negeri, 11600 Penang with 172 members present.

The opening was officiated by the Pengarah Koperasi Malaysia, Penang, Mr. Lim Ti Ti.

To enable all disabled persons to be a part of this co-operation and to recruit more membership into the Koperasi, the name of Koperasi Cerebral Palsy (Spastik) Pulau Pinang Berhad has been officially changed to Koperasi OKU Pulau Pinang Berhad in 2009.

To generate economic advancements for disabled person.

To promote independent living amongst the disabled adults.

VISION

MISSION To create more job

opportunities for disabled persons.

To equip them with entrepreneurial skills to integrate in a competitive environment.

CONVENIENCE STORE

A wide range of consumable products are available at the store at reasonable prices. This is to allow better buying capacity and in the same time supporting the cause of the disabled society.

Items that are available includes rice, sugar, biscuits, white coffee, Master Fong’s cookies, coconut oil, etc.

The Cerebral Palsy (Spastic) Children’s Association was appointed to handle the Computer Recycling Project by the Penang Environment Working Group.

Koperasi OKU has collected more than 4000 kilos of recycle material and are expecting a constant flow from this project.

CAFETERIA

CAFETERIA Our Cafeteria was officially opened on 12th November 2011. This cafeteria is opened to the public, the

families and all disabled individuals to patronise and render their support towards the OKU. As this cafeteria is disabled friendly, persons with all kind of disabilities have an easy access to it.

This cafeteria will be equipped with internet

facilities and a bakery with freshly baked breads and cakes.

LAUNDERETTE

The Koperasi is equipped with two washing machines and two dryer machines to carry out the launderette service for the general public.

At the moment the launderette receives clothes and table clothes from restaurants, factories as well as schools.

A publicity campaign has been organised to inform the public of our laundry services.

Organic Chilly Farm

The Koperasi OKU Pulau Pinang Berhad had embarked on Organic Chilly farming in October 2009 to help to train young adults to care for the plants which will also generate some income for them.

YB Dato Dr. Hilmi Yahya’s donated 400 polybags of organic compose and seedlings towards this project without any cost to the Koperasi. About 200 kilos of organic chillies had been harvested so far. This had brought joy to the young adults.

SECURITY SERVICES

Security Services is another feature that has been incorporated into the Koperasi OKU.

The Cerebral Palsy Children’s Association of Penang have recruited security guards to keep our environment secured at all times.

This particular project is mainly supported by AM BANK with a

funding of RM63,000.00 which was presented by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Azman Hashim, AmBank Group

Chairman, to the Koperasi OKU Pulau Pinang Berhad on the 4th June 2011, during their Family Day

Function at USM, Penang.

FUTURE PROJECT

Transport Project has also been in the pipeline to cater for wheelchair carriage facilities as well as general transport for disabled persons or NGO’s who require these services with reasonable charge.

This is to enhance mobility and independence for the OKU’s where they can gain access to public places.
