HOSPICE NEWSfall 2011
Honorary Chair launches Residence Campaign
On July 16th, 75 board members, donors and residents of the community joined us tocelebrate the launch of our public campaign for the new Hospice residence.
Special thanks go to Gene and Joey Haines who so graciously welcomed our guests attheir Point Breeze lakeside home.
John Dellaquila President of the Hospice Board of Directors announced that NYS hadJohn Dellaquila, President of the Hospice Board of Directors announced that NYS hadapproved the Certificate of Need for the Residence and thanked our many donors. One of the highlights of the program was the announcement that Mr. Bruce Martin hasaccepted the role of the campaign’s Honorary Chair. We are also pleased to announce that Carl and Carol Petronio have made a gift of $25,000 and are also assisting usin building additional support for the project. Hospice grew out of this kind of remarkable grassroots support andwith the Residence in place will help us to continue to grow to meet the needs of our community.
Holley/Clarendon Community Campaign Launchedy y p gUnder the able leadership of Holley resident John Dellaquila, Board Chairman, the first of the area community campaigns was officially launched in August.
A steering committee of local volunteers Kathleen Case, Jeff Martin, Joanne Mayer, Dennis Piedimonte, Joann Smith and Kathleen Smith has convened, potential gifts identified and gifts totaling more than $23,000 have already been received. Watch this newsletter for regular updates!
Upon completion, we will be launching the Lyndonville Community Campaign with the help of Eleanor Whipple, long time Hospice board member, who has already recruited several volunteers.

Who Gives & connection. Most Giving comes from the heart and is driven by the desire to
make a difference and positively impact the donor’s own community orpersonal area of interest. In terms of Hospice of Orleans, many supporterstell me that they give to Hospice because they know their contribution staysin the local community. The majority of us choose to make an annual gift tosupport a charity with which we have firsthand knowledge, usually where a

family member or friend has benefitted from its services. Specific to ourHospice programs, I believe that community wide, there is the perception ofa truly caring group of professionals with extraordinary support of theirBoard of Directors and an army of dedicated volunteers. What better placecould one choose to “invest” ones money! Occasionally, there is the desire forour gifts to have a longer term impact, commonly known as the legacy effect.
I am so heartened by the most recently available statistics from USA Giving.
In 2009, $308 billion g g p , y g yPlanned or endowment gift donors are already very familiar with theirchosen charity. They will not only be familiar with the organizations historyand aware of the future needs, but have faith that the charity will be goodstewards of their money.
