Balmoral Group Holdings Ltd is a privately owned businessheadquartered in Aberdeen, UK, and has been providingsolutions to the civil and environmental, building and energysectors since 1980.
The enterprise has been built upon research, development andtechnical innovation. It is this commitment to progress that hashelped the company achieve its status as a market leader in itschosen fields of operation.
The company has, for a number of years, successfullyoperated manufacturing processes at Balmoral Park which areapproved and strictly regulated by the Scottish EnvironmentProtection Agency under Part B of the EnvironmentalProtection Act 1990.
Balmoral Tanks Ltd, a division of Balmoral Group Holdings Ltd,is a leading European engineering design and manufacturingcompany.
As a result of significant investment in people and plant, thecompany produces what is believed to be the mostcomprehensive range of tank products available from a singlesource in the EU.
Civil engineering, wastewater treatment, drainage, fuel oilcontainment, bulk liquid and potable water storage sectors areall key sectors for the company.
Balmoral GRP sectional water tanks provide water storage incapacities of 1m3-1000m3 and are erected to heights of 4m in1m and 0.5m increments. With an unrivalled reputation forquality and service, Balmoral GRP sectional tanks can be pre-insulated and carry full WRAS and LPCB approvals.
Hot pressed steel tanks are designed and manufactured byBalmoral-owned Horseley Bridge Tanks. Established in 1880, itis the oldest tank manufacturing company in the world and thepioneer of bolted sectional water tanks.
Rotationally moulded tanks ranging from capacities of 500 to75,000 litres are currently produced, and it is this flexibilityand comprehensive product range that gives Balmoral Tanks itscompetitive advantage.
The vast majority of Balmoral Tanks’ products are accreditedand approved by numerous agencies: BBA; IAB; IP; LPCB; OFTECand WRAS to name but a few. In gaining these accreditationsBalmoral has raised the integrity and standards of the tankindustry around the world.

DesignThe design of each sectional tank panel is modelledusing FEA software. This allows fine detail to bethoroughly investigated and improved before proceedingto mouldmaking and production.
MaterialsAll materials used in the production and assembly ofBalmoral GRP tanks are rigorously tested for potablewater compatibility. This includes long term materialperformance and mechanical properties, non-metalliccomponents, adhesives, etc. Combined, these analysesform the basis of the company’s extensive QCprocedures.
Manufacturing processBalmoral sectional tank panels are hot press moulded inglass reinforced plastics (GRP) using isophthalicunsaturated polyester resins and electrical glassfibrereinforcement.
The panels are moulded at temperatures up to 150°Cunder strict quality control disciplines. The processresults in strong, consistent panels which are fully cured, dimensionally accurate with sharply defined profiles andsmooth surfaces on both faces.
Drilling and finishing of the panels is undertaken in apurpose built controlled area, where high technologyautomated drilling equipment is used to completeproduction to exacting tolerance levels.
Thermal insulationBalmoral Sectional Tanks usesexpanded polystyrene (EPS)materials in its thermallyinsulated panels. This ismade using a pentaneexpansion agent which is CFCand HCFC free and can berecycled by melting downand reforming.

The Balmoral range of sectional GRP tanks may be specified as either
externally flanged base (EFB) or internally flanged base (IFB). This
allows the use of either flat continuous foundations, close centre
beams, pier walls or bearer beams depending upon the type of base
required. The internally built tank (IBT) to be supported as standard on
an IFB foundation.
The EFB specification is fully self draining allowing ease of
maintenance and cleaning.
• Flexibility of panel sizes allows connections to be
agreed on site to suit actual tank location
• Modular design provides ease of transport and flexibility of
assembly on either a prepared flat and level concrete foundation,
support walls or bearer beams
• Panels are rigidly supported by a combination of stainless steel tie
rods internally and galvanised box sections externally
• Installation is carried out by Balmoral approved installers, fully
trained to provide total unified responsibility

Balmoral M100 and M100-B30 sectional tanks are Loss
Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approved for
fire fighting sprinkler systems.
• Sprinkler tanks are to be approved by the LPCB to
LPS1276 standard and have a current listing in the
LPCB “red book live”
• Sprinkler systems must comply with
BS EN 12845:2004
• A type AB air gap is required unless connected to
a dedicated water supply
• External ladders must be compliant with BS4211
• Water level indication is required on sprinkler tanks
• The water in sprinkler tanks tends to be inactive
for long periods of time. Immersion heaters or
other means of preventing freezing may be
required
• In the event of a fire, large quantities of
continuous flow are required. If a vortex
inhibitor is fitted, the volume of water that can
be drawn from the tank is increased without
the inclusion of air or a reduction in the flow
rate. There are two main types of vortex
inhibitor: positive head and suction lift
