Problem

Like any port, Pasaia suffers from pollution, particularly that conveyed by surface water.

Problem

Surface water pollutants flow from the port into the estuary of the Oiartzunriver.

Solution

Urgarbi proposed a solution: Analyse the stormwater Test treatment devices Conceptualise a stormwater

treatment solution

Solution

Urgarbi conducted analysis of stormwater discharges into the estuary over a period of more than eight months.

Solution

The stormwater contained suspended solids and environmentally damaging metals such as iron, zinc and lead.

Solution

Urgarbi passed the stormwater through mobile Downstream Defender® and Up-Flo® Filter stormwater treatment units

Outcome

The stormwater treatment units reduced pollution in stormwaterdischarge by between 78% and 90%.
