How to Open a New Book

Set the spine of the book on the table.

Press the front cover down until it touches the table, then press the back cover down.

Hold the leaves upright in one hand, then turn a few pages alternately on the front cover and then on

the back cover, until the book lies flat in the middle.

How to Turn the Pages of a Book

• Turn the pages of a book by holding the top right hand corner of each page.

• Let your hand slide to the back of the page, and then turn.

How to Take a Book from the

Shelf• Use your index finger to hold the center spine of the book.

• Use the thumb and middle finger to help grip the book.

• Pull the book gently from the shelf.

Ways of Caring for Books

Wrap booksUse a bookmarkAvoid placing books in too much sunlightAvoid repairing books with paper clips or staplesAvoid folding books when readingBooks should not be defaced (marked or highlighted) Pages should not be torn from booksKeep books in a safe place

Ways of Caring for other Library Resources

Turn off all electronic devices when not in use

Properly shut down computers after use

Avoid unplugging electronic devices while in operation

Avoid using corroded USB flash drives in computer

Heal all viruses and do continuous virus scan on your computer

Avoid eating while using audio/visual resources

Avoid placing objects on the computer workstation

Avoid touching the monitors

Avoid pressing buttons with which you are unfamiliar.
