How to create a Great Whiteboard Video on the Cheap (7 steps)by Duke Revard

1) Brainstorm

Your video must addresses one of the following three questions:

✤ What problem am I solving?

✤ What question am I answering?

✤ What need am I meeting?

Scour the Web

✤ Find great content that “works”

✤ Analyze why it works

✤ I watched several Epipheo > videos to gain inspiration

✤ “The Secret to Creativity is learning to hide your sources” - Albert Einstein

✤ Budget: Free (or the value of your time)

Resource “The Thank You Economy” by Vaynerchuk General Content Marketing Theory

2) White the Script Yourself✤ No one knows your business/

org/website like you

✤ Not a great writer? Enlist a good writer to help

✤ The tighter the script, the slower the pace of the video

✤ Remember: the images will do a lot of the talking. Less = More

✤ Budget: Free (or the value of your time)

Script Length

✤ 240-280 words = 2 min video

✤ Compare the 3 videos I did

✤ “How to get a Surety Bond in 5 Minutes” Video (2:09 min, 318 words)

✤ “Surety Bonds Made Easy” Video (1:45 min, 275 words)

✤ “The Rolls-Royce of Surety Software” Video (1:23 min, 245 words)

Resource

✤ Williams Brohaugh’s (Readers Digest Editor) book “Write Tight” is a great reference

✤ Utilize Brohaugh’s tips through multiple re-writes are you are certain to say more with less

✤ You will come back to this resource in all of your copywriting

3) Outsource the Drawings...

✤ ...Unless you are a gifted artist

✤ Check out the portfolio of several artists

✤ Choose the one that best captures your desired tone and budget

✤ Budget: $500 per-video-minute or Free is you do the drawings

Editing Process

✤ You will likely get one image editing cycle with the artist

✤ Make sure the artist is capturing the right metaphors and tone for your video

✤ Give specific feedback

✤ Example: Items in Gray Bubbles were things we moved around or changed.

ResourceI used, and now recommend, Mike Washburn at www.justscribbles.com

4) Record audio reading of the ScriptI used bodalgo.com and received 25 project offers in 12 hours.

Choose Voice talent✤ Upload your script on

bodalgo.com and many will read it as their audition

✤ Select the Audio Talent that best captures the tone you are seeking with your video

✤ Budget: We received several offers in the $225-250 range for 4 minutes of audio (two videos) or Free if you read the script yourself

5) Write a great Headline

✤ Bad Headline = Invisible

✤ This is the most important step

✤ Must be intriguing enough to standout from the noise

✤ Convince people your video is worth 2 minutes of their time

✤ Budget: Free (or the value of your time)

ResourceFree: “Headline Hacks” by Jon Morrow Premium: “Advertising Headlines” by Garfinkel

6) Include a Call-to-Action

✤ Get as much mileage out of your video as possible

✤ “Subscribe to our YouTube channel”

✤ “Share with your friends”

✤ “Visit our Website”

✤ Budget: Free (or the value of your time)

7) Promote, Promote, Promote

✤ You worked hard on the video, now work hard to promote it

✤ Make sure your Blog/website is your digital home base

✤ Post on Monday

✤ Share with people who may be interested

✤ Utilize Social Media

✤ Budget: Free (or the value of your time)
