Creating a Shortcut to a Program

It is very important when creating a shortcut not to move the actual program from the Start menu. Doing this would cause others who login and use the computer to not have access to the program.

Let’s get started!

1. Select START in the lower left hand corner.

2. Select ALL PROGRAMS3. Click once to select the program in which you want to make a shortcut to on your desktop.

4. Right click on the program and select CREATE SHORTCUT.

5. The shortcut will appear at the bottom of the program window. See Microsoft Office

6. Click once on the shortcut.7. Holding your mouse key down, drag the

shortcut to your desktop.8. You can now move your shortcut to any

location on your desktop by selecting the icon once and dragging it to the location of choice.

Today, you will learn how to create a shortcut to a website on your desktop.

1. Open Internet Explorer and go to the website that you want to make a shortcut to.

2. Click and hold down your mouse key on the white paper with the blue e icon to the left of

the website’s URL.

3. Drag the URL’s icon to the desktop. The icon will appear as below when placed on your desktop.

Creating a Shortcut to a WebsiteTIPWhen adding a shortcut from a URL to your desktop, your Internet Explorer window needs to be restored down and not filling the screen.

To restore down a window, select the double windows icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
