We all know that there are many types of memory, and they are based on different theories. Such as explicit memory and implicit memory, declaration memory and procedural memory.

And cognitive psychologist have proposed three types of memory, each with differences in duration, capacity, coding and function. They are sensory, short term and long term memory. In the sensory memory, the stimuli in our sense organs last only one to two seconds, The time is very short.

And when referring to the short term memory , the situation is different. We take a case for example, if you look up a telephone number and remember it long enough to dial it,we use short term memory.The time lasts much longer than that of sensory memory.

The long term memory provides the lasting retention of information and skills from minutes to a lifetime
