Use grammar and vocabulary books at home, such as:
Read in English: you’ll learn new words in an interesting context &
you’ll consolidate grammar
Read graded readers,
Read magazines for students, articles with a
glossary for a quick check
Listen to an American,
Australian, Scottish or
English online radio
e.g. BBC
Watch films with subtitles
Study English online
e.g. BBC learning English
Sing in English
in
the shower!
Watch the news in English on TV or
online
… or your favourite sitcoms
or TV shows
listen to your favourite songs
with lyrics

Discuss with a partner:
*Which of the techniques do you find most effective? Why?*Which of the techniques have you already used?*What other ways of learnig English at home have you used or heard of?
*read the list of words a lot of times*translate them into Polish*draw a picture representing the new word*write it with an opposite (e.g. rough – smooth)*write synonyms (e.g. awful = terrible, horrible)*write a sentence with it (Hail destroys farmers’ crops)*record the words on your MP3 player and listen to
them on your way to school or work*put the new words in categories or make a mind map
