What they are, how to pass them and example questions.
WHAT is Non-Verbal Reasoning?
‘Non-Verbal Reasoning can be defined as a type of psychometric assessment that requires logical and technical ability to visualise patterns, shapes and formations’.

MASTERING Non-Verbal Reasoning
The only way to master Non-Verbal Reasoning is to simply undergo as many practice questions as you can.
Find out whether your assessment has a time limit. Most recruiters will use a time limit to determine how well you perform under pressure.
Find out whether your assessment deducts marks for incorrect answers. In which case, you will want to avoid random guesses.
It is important to remember to aim for accuracy as well as speed.
If you find one particular type of question difficult, move on and come back to it at the end.
And remember, to save time through tests like these, eliminate the most obscure answers.
EXAMPLE 1 TOP TIPS!
Imagine you are a bird overlooking everything from above. What would you see?
Eliminate the obscure answers.
Only focus on the shape that would appear on the top of the diagram. (Shown by the red circle in the example).
2D Views of 3D Shapes
B
Question
Work out which figure is a top-down 2D view of the 3D
shape.
TOP TIPS!
Focus on one element of the diagram. What happens to it from box 1 to box 2?
Anything can be changing in these types of questions. Pay attention to everything!
Eliminate the obscure answers!
Question
Look at how the figure changes from box 1 to box 2. Apply
the same changes in order to get the correct answer.
EXAMPLE 2 Complete the Pair
B
EXAMPLE 3 Connect the ShapesQuestion
Connect the shapes using the corresponding letters to
complete the shape.
E
TOP TIPS!
Focus on one element of the sequence.
Look to eliminate answers.
EXAMPLE 4 Odd One Out
E
Question
Work out which figure (A, B, C, D or E) is the odd one out.
TOP TIPS!
Anything can be changing in these diagrams.
Pay attention to everything i.e. colours, rotations, reflections etc.
Focus on one part of the diagram and see how it remains the same throughout. One part of the sequence will be different, making it the odd one out.
EXAMPLE 5 Identical Shapes
B and C
Question
Work out which two shapes are identical. (No rotation or
reflection needed). TWO answers required.
TOP TIPS!
Eliminate the obscure answers.
Some answers may look similar, but will be slightly different.
EXAMPLE 6 Cubes and Nets
A
Question
Work out which of the cubes can be made from the net.
TOP TIPS!
Build your own paper cube and draw the shapes on. Fold the cube to see where the shapes will be positioned.
Look at each answer option and determine whether it could be possibly correct.
EXAMPLE 7 Complete the Sequence
D
Question
Work out which option best fits in the missing square in
order to complete the sequence.
TOP TIPS!
Focus on one element at a time.
Eliminate the obscure answers.
